I had this idea last night: What artists need is an ARC, an Artists' Resource Centre. There are quite a few co-op shops/galleries run by groups of artists thus cutting out the middlemen. But a lot of an artist' expense is paying for the printing, the framing, etc. What if there was a place where artists could go and do all that themselves. Where someone (like me) could teach them the necessary skills then use the equipment as and when the need arises.
What's needed is a reasonable location with enough room for the kit, work and storage. It could be set up as, say, a CIC (Community Interest Company, i.e. not for profit), with artists, perhaps, subscribing to be able to make use of the facilities, then paying for the materials plus a percentage extra which would go towards rent and rates (if any) & utilities.
Just an idea, but what do people think? A group like SHAF could, for instance, be at the heart of it.
