Monkeys Photos'n'Prints Hello all, This page is dedicated to the photography and printing side of my business

21/04/2024

Must say, I'm happy to know that a couple people have found me and decided to take me up on one of my rare products

I offer an E3 / E4 Kodak Ektachrome development service where I will meticulously hand-develop these out of date films

Commercial level development is no longer available for these processes, as the developers aren't provided by Kodak

I use a modern colour developer, which is more readily available, but unfortunately, the films are so old that the images contained are very difficult to produce, and the film unfortunately will be developed as a negative so can't be projected

Despite this, I feel that it's worth the risks, at least to try and see a few of the potentially precious memories that would never be seen again otherwise

This service has had a reduction in price over on my website, down to £25 per roll

Feel free to peruse my products over at www.monkeys3dprints.co.uk

Turns out this reversal stuff is a lil more difficult.
Results were completely black films where in the right light on the emulsion side, you can almost see the layered silver of the image, but definitely not useable
This I believe is something to do with either the ferric chloride or amonia not completing the bleaching, or the fact that the ammonia may have reacted with something to do with the ferric chloride which left orange residue.
I should have re bleached when I noticed the slight negative left on the film which shouldn't have been there I don't think
Seems like something I'll have to try again some time in the future

Experiment day today, means turning the kitchen to a lab once again
Today's experiment is B&W Reversal, creating B&W slides from negative film
Uses some strong chemicals like Ferric Chloride (used to etch PCBs) and ammonia (just stinks).
Hoping for decent results as I've modified the instructions a bit to suit what I have 😬
Will post results if they are usable

I deemed today as developing day for some of my films I've had stashed away, done C41, E6 and B&W today so a lil bit of everything.
Due to the nature of a couple rolls, not all photos will be shared with you guys, but I will share all that i can
I am offering E3/E4 Slide film development still, refresher and extra info coming soon!!
Also need to get me a better drying apparatus 🤫

Hi all!

Been a while since my last post, but have recently moved house so not had a lot of chance to sort out photographs and the likes, but here's an update.

Recently had the pleasure of going to the Powderham Historic Vehicle Gathering hosted by the amazing people over at Crash Box & Classic Car Club
Which I both displayed my Bike and got plenty of photos, not as many as I had hoped to get but that's all thanks to the Great British Weather.

Anyhoo, here's a selection of photos I've had a chance to edit, still plenty more on the way, with me working through the backlog of 2 smaller car shows and a holiday, and still waiting on getting all my film processed.

I am in a situation where I would be happy to get smaller prints done for people providing there is enough demand, but turnaround times will be relatively slow unless people want to pay extra for expedited postage

I will also be going through and rescanning all my film that's been processed already and updating my website with a portfolio that is easier to navigate, with all my photos, bar the awful ones, along with a page, almost like a blog, with the best bits and a lil bit about each photo, providing I can remember.

I hope you all stick with me through all this and I hope you like at least a couple of my photos

Thanks all,
Mike @ Monkeys Photos'n'Prints

This batch of pictures are from my first roll of Fuji Colour film, and i can agree that fuji films have lovely greens
Some photos are from my trip to Powderham car show (where i might be displaying my bike next year ;) ), and the other few are from a quick trip to Torquay Seafront, with the picture of the big wheel and the fountain being my favourites

Here's some shots from my favourite film roll by far!
This film is roughly 20 years expired, is very slow speed so only really usable on very bright sunny days, but even then you may need wide open aperture, giving a shallow depth of field to some shots.
The spots though, they're very unique, very reminiscent of some form of fungal growth, but the uniformity is baffling. My theory is that this film was very special to Kodak, so they used some funky method to "Spoil" the film so that less people would use it, but that's just a theory
This film in question is called Eastman Ektachrome 5399vn, Ektachrome meaning its actually a slide film, and the "vn" means "Video News" so it was potentially used for some form of news related purpose.
For these pictures, i developed the film in C41 chemistry, which may have contributed to the almost dreamy colours
