Few beers last night, means one thing, one mile per beer and a slog of a run.

A few clips from a cracking day in the Mourne Mountains with Stephen.

22 miles on the legs, plenty of wind on the tops, clag drifting across the hills, the occasional burst of sunshine, and lots of laughs along the way.

The weather kept us guessing all day, but that’s part of what makes days in the mountains so memorable. No matter how many times I visit the Mournes, they never disappoint.

Good company, great trails, and another adventure to look back on.

Have you been out for a hike recently? Let me know where you’ve been exploring.

⏰ WE ALMOST RAN OUT OF TIME…

This evening at 6pm, a new video lands on Geoffrey Greenaway Outdoors.

On a recent Friday evening, Stephen and I set ourselves a challenge in the Mourne Mountains: could we summit 4 peaks in under 4 hours?

The route took us over:
🏔 Ott Mountain
🏔 Carn Mountain
🏔 Slieve Meelbeg
🏔 Slieve Loughshannagh

With daylight fading and the clock ticking, what looked like a straightforward hike quickly became a race against time.

Did we make it?

You’ll find out when the video premieres at 6pm tonight.

A big thank you to Stephen for putting together this week’s thumbnail. I think he’s done a cracking job!

Set a reminder, grab a cuppa, and I’ll see you in the comments this evening.

DNF.

Most people know those three letters as “Did Not Finish.”

It’s something we often hear in endurance events, races, and challenges. But during the Mourne Wall Challenge, we decided to put a different meaning on it.

For us, DNF stood for Do Not Fail.

Not because failure isn’t possible, but because mindset matters.

Too many people approach challenges already thinking about the reasons they won’t succeed. The distance is too far. The climb is too steep. The weather is too bad. They’re not fit enough. They’re not ready.

When you start with a negative mindset, you’ve already made the challenge harder before you’ve even taken the first step.

Whether it’s a mountain challenge, a fitness goal, a new business, or something personal you’re working towards, try changing your perspective.

Focus on what you can do.
Focus on the next step.
Focus on moving forward.

The body will often go much further than the mind believes it can.

So the next time you’re faced with a challenge, remember:

DNF doesn’t always mean Did Not Finish.

Sometimes it means:

Do Not Fail.

Keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Back in the saddle. 🏃‍♂️

After nearly two weeks of not feeling 100%, it was great to finally get back out for a run this evening.

I headed around Lurgan Park for a steady 5km. The skies were dark, the weather was a bit moody, but honestly it just felt good to be moving again and enjoying the fresh air.

Sometimes you take being able to get out and run for granted until it’s taken away for a while. No personal bests, no pressure, just grateful to be back doing what I enjoy.

5.01km | 29:33 | 5:54/km

Hopefully this is the start of getting back into a regular routine again.

First run out with the new Amazfit T-Rex 3 last night.

I’ve seen plenty of people online calling this watch a Garmin killer, but I’m not ready to make that judgement just yet. I’ll give it a few weeks of hiking, running, and mountain days before deciding how it really stacks up.

The main reason I bought it was for the offline mapping feature, which could be a game changer out on the trails. That said, if you’re heading into the mountains, don’t rely entirely on any watch or piece of technology. Always carry a map and compass and make sure you know how to use them.

First impressions are positive. The watch face is clean, easy to read, and gives all the key stats at a glance.

If you’re already using the T-Rex 3, let me know your favourite features or any hidden gems I should check out.

Have you made the switch from Garmin, or would you?

One of my favourite spots in the Mourne Mountains. 📍

This was taken on the side of Doan, with Silent Valley Reservoir sitting quietly in the distance. Days like this remind me why I love getting out into the hills.

Doan is definitely in my top three Mourne peaks. Great views, great company, and a great day on the mountains.

Thanks to Stephen Greenaway for capturing this moment on one of our recent hikes.

The Green Tank. 💚⛺

The Wild Country Helm Compact 1 is quickly becoming my favourite tent that I own.

There are plenty of great tents out there, and as always it’s horses for courses. The Robens Pioneer 2EX is still an excellent tent and there are trips where the extra space makes it the better choice.

But on nights like this, when pitching space is limited and you need something compact, solid and dependable, the Helm Compact 1 really comes into its own.

It’s easy to see why this little tent has built such a strong reputation among backpackers and wild campers. Tough enough to handle rough conditions, yet compact enough to fit into those awkward pitches that bigger tents simply can’t.

What’s your go-to tent for wild camping?

👀 I spy a camping pitch…

This photo popped up from a previous wild camp on a small summit, and it got me thinking about how much I miss evenings like this. Clear skies, warm sunshine, and a perfect spot to pitch the tent.

After the weather we’ve been having lately, surely something has to give soon! It feels like it’s been one cloudy, wet day after another.

For now, I’ll settle for looking back through old camp photos and hoping the next adventure comes with a bit of sunshine included. ☀️🏕️

Anyone else ready for a decent spell of good weather

The sound of joy in the middle of the struggle. ⛰️😁

This was during the Mourne Wall Challenge, one of the toughest hiking routes in Ireland.

There were plenty of moments when the legs were tired, the climbs felt relentless, and the finish seemed a long way off. But despite all that, there was laughter, cheering, and a lot of good craic along the way.

Sometimes it’s not about how fast you go or how much it hurts. It’s about sharing the experience with others and enjoying the journey, even when it’s challenging.

These are the moments that make the hard miles worth it.

Have you completed the Mourne Wall Challenge? I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments.
