Was just about to give up on looking for Barn Owls on the Northumberland coast, & driving away came across this Barn Owl perched on a fence post, looks like this owl had an injury to its eye or an eye infection.
Interesting fact about the Barn Owl is that it’s distinctive heart-shaped facial disc isn’t just for looks—it acts like a satellite dish, funneling sound to their asymmetrical ears (one higher than the other). This gives them the best hearing of any animal tested, allowing them to locate prey by sound alone, even in complete darkness or under snow.

The great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus) performs one of the most elaborate and elegant courtship rituals among birds, often described as a graceful water dance. It typically occurs in spring on lakes or slow rivers.
The display begins with the pair facing each other, extending their long necks, and vigorously shaking their heads side to side to fan out their striking black crests and orange-black facial ruffs (tippets).
