Lovely shoot this afternoon with .overs 😁
Just so over the moon I'm able to give away free shoots to local artists through this sponsor an artist project!!

I am hoping to get some funding from the arts council to do more but since we all know what it's like getting funding in the north east this is a good way of helping the creative community for now 😊

and I are teaming up to create body positive Goddess Workshops in the North East!!

We've done loads of amazing ethereal goddessy shoots over the years - and we both are strong believers in the power of the body positive movement 😁

The idea is that we run an empowering workshop to get you feeling confident and unstoppable - then celebrating with a goddess photoshoot!!

More announcements and things to come so please go follow for more info/ updates/ to show support 😘

This is an inclusive space but will be focusing more on the feminine side of things for now (whatever that means to you!)

Also I was canny luteal when filming this so extra chaotic but hey ho at least there were some bats 😅

Want to help North East working class artists get ahead in their careers?? Sick of opportunities only going to London? Want your talented bestie to get to the next level of their career? Well read on to find out what to do!

These past 2 weeks I've set up something called the 'sponsor an artist' project - where lovely gorgeous folk can give £1 a month (or more if they like) - and I can offer free promo shoots to those who need it most! And if you are new here - hello I'm Jessie and I run Crisp Sandwich Studio a teeny photography studio in Newcastle which I've been building up from scratch - so I know fine well how tough it can be for north east creatives!!

The Sponsor An Artist project began when I realised that all the cool interesting talented people I wanted to work with were simply too skint to get a photoshoot (even though they really wanted one) - and I thought it would be an idea to ask the arts council for a grant to support me doing free promo shoots for these talented beings. But since all their money seems to be going to London I'm trying a plan B. Socialism seems to be the key - so Sponsor an Artist was born!

So far I've had a few amazing donations, and some gorgeous regular sponsors too! But my goal is to make this at least monthly - and I need a little help to get the word out.

Hey hey!! So I've picked the first person to get their free photoshoot (sponsored by you lovelies!)

Bit of a late post this evening and mi hairs a bit mad but nevermind 😊 having one of them days and we got there in the end!

Thank you to everyone whose donated/ sponsored so far - as you know your funds are going towards supporting north east artists boost their career with much needed promo photography 😊 (headshots, band shoots, product photos etc).

And a special thank you to .uk who donated enough for a full shoot!! So we can do the first one!!

As youse know I'm doing a 'sponsor an artist' project where lovely folk can donate £1 each month to help a north east musician/ artist/ performer/ designer/maker get some much needed photography work done which they can't usually afford.

This is something I tried to get from the arts council but they don't seem to like the north very much - so trying something else instead! Because if northerners are anything - they are resilient!! And there's nothing better than community 🥰

Don't worry if you're name hasn't come out of the cup yet it will stay there until I get the next lot of funding 😊 I did have to make a bit of a shortlist as some applicants lived a bit too far away for my criteria.

What's that?? Free photoshoots for the skint creatives of the north east!?? What in the radical socialism is this!??

Yes indeed! It's true - and it's a little 'out there' but I think it could really work 😁

So I've set up a 'sponsor an artist' membership on my Ko-fi, where fabulous patrons of the arts donate from £1 a month and then that means that skint creatives can get a free photoshoot 😎

So if you are interested in being considered for a free shoot please comment below with who you are, where you are based, what you do (are you a band, a single artist, a writer, a clown, a comedian, a painter, a designer maker?) and I'll send you an application form thing!

I'm focusing on the North East as this is where I live and where my studio is, but also because the Arts Council keep pretending we don't exist 🙃 but there's SO MUCH TALENT around here!!

So leave a comment or DM, share this to your story, tag band members etc let's get the ball rolling I want a nice big list of creative people 😘

One of the biggest things I've noticed is that there are sooo many talented people in the north east who are also very skint - who never get to have the time or money to focus properly on their creative careers.

But these people have the coolest ideas, the best songs, the funniest jokes - and they are just going under the radar because Tesco's now feels like shopping at Waitrose and you can no longer afford a single flat on a minimum wage job 👀

My little socialist heart has been thinking about this for quite some time, what if there was another way? If the arts council want to keep all their funds down in London then what can we do?

If the north east art scene is anything - it's resilient. We make sets out of cardboard boxes from the corner shop, we donate free items like crutches when a friend is in need, we are always there for each other.

So anyway - I'm trying something out, for those talented buggers who are living hand to mouth.

Sponsor a north east artist today and let's just see what can happen.
