We are very proud to share that My Thyroid and Me: A Young Person’s Cancer Story has been shortlisted for the RTS North East and Borders Awards 2026 🧡
The film was made with Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust, who came to us with a very specific challenge: create something that could speak honestly to children and young people with thyroid cancer, and to their parents and carers, at a moment when everyone is scared and looking for answers.
Thyroid cancer in young people is rare, which means families often face a real lack of clear, age-appropriate information. From the start, it was obvious this film needed a real young person at its heart. Molly, who was 15 during treatment, and her mum Rebecca shaped the entire piece with their openness and generosity.
One of the most special parts of the project was discovering that Molly is an artist. Her illustrations became the visual language of the film, helping us explain anatomy, surgery and nuclear medicine in a way that felt human, warm and reassuring.
Since its release, the response has been incredibly moving. Parents have said they felt seen. Young people have said it helped them understand what was coming. Clinicians now use it as both a patient resource and a training tool, including at the World Thyroid Cancer Conference in Boston.
Being shortlisted by the Royal Television Society feels like a real honour, especially alongside such a strong field of work.
Whatever happens at the awards, this film is already doing what it was meant to do: helping people feel less alone at a frightening moment in their lives. And that matters more than any trophy ever could.
Huge thanks to Molly and her family for trusting us with their story, and to Butterfly for believing in the project from the very beginning.
