She titled this “Childhood Dream”. I remember as a child I had this dream of becoming an Accountant, sooner enough as I was growing up I swept that dream under the carpet because I didn’t like anything mathematical. That dream later changed and was influenced by the likes of Funmi Iyanda, Funmi Wakama, Abike Dabiri and Cyril Stober and the late Sadiq Daba all of the NTA fame at the time. I wanted to be a newscaster and all that changed at my third year in the university. I wanted to be a print journalist as opposed to my dream of becoming a newscaster. I realized writing was it for me and I didn’t have to be in front of the camera. It’s funny how most of us wanted to be doctors, engineers, lawyers and what have you growing up. In this time and age I hear children say things like I want to be a YouTuber, I want to be a dancer and so on. The narrative is changing. Roya is one of the persons who still followed their childhood dreams to the letter and it’s so beautiful to see her many amazing works as a talented Ceramist who is inspired by the sea, sea waves and nature.
