How are all the freelancer parents handling half-term? We're struggling here with no childcare and of course I have hundreds of photos to edit and content to create. I was able to create this today, though while she was watching some Danny Go (after spending the rest of the day outside because ✨ Balance ✨, but tomorrow it's raining so... Yeah...)

I'm allowed to share this little cutie's face but I thought it would be interesting to show different ways of creating/showing baby content without having to show their faces. I know they change so much at that age that they can't really be recognised and while I absolutely don't judge anyone sharing their kids' faces on the internet I wanted to show that if you're not comfortable with it but still want to get these content contracts, there was a way!

This has been filmed on my camera but most phones now have a "portrait" or macro feature that allows you to get this sort of blurry background, as a rule always film high res and wider, you can always crop and zoom in when editing!

From sketch to photo... Final photos from my sorbet-gate shooting! Added some dramatic sparkles because why not? We need sparkles, especially at this time!

Whenever I shoot for it's always fun to combine a very e-commerce style for the product itself that is going to go on their website, and then the more creative photos, which are also going on the website but which first aim is social media.

For each creative set, I always have a chat with the owner and build on her ideas, we exchange ideas, see what is possible or not, I often make some doodles like here in the first image, it helps to be on the same page with the client! I'll show you the other ones too, the final photos actually turned out pretty close to each drawing I made for once!

I'm trying to be like the everything is aesthetic girly but my face has got subtitles, especially when I'm trying to update my squarespace website and everything glitches.. All I was trying to do was add a new page with my content creation/ videos whatever you want to call it 🫡

Then Claude lectured me when I asked about Lemon8 and its future by telling me that I was already not consistently posting on insta so it was probably best not to add another platform to my plate 🙄🤨

Whatever robot! Then I was mad so I went on Instagram for a palate cleanse to watch Stray Kids videos and obviously finished singing along.

POV: Your food/food-based products get photographed (and styled) by me

Food is the first thing I started to work with and style, in fact it was the main subject of my work when I did my Fine Art School diploma, it was photos of fake and real food, my cat at the time got fooled and tried to still a piece of fake cake I was photographing (but was actually sponge dipped in acrylic paint)

So it kind of made sense that my first contracts when I arrived in Newcastle 10 years ago were all for restaurants or food-based products. I did quite a lot of work for Savour Magazine back when it still existed, but I also used to do A LOT of personal projects based around food.

When thinking about it, it feels like I've pulled the threads of my then artistic work, that have led me to love using food even when I shoot beauty products (I actually might do a post with all my work that uses food, sensory marketing is my face thing)

Just here hoping spring actually brings the refresh and good vibes we all need...

The past couples of months haven't been the greatest and sometimes it just feels like everything stacks up and it's a guessing game of "how high?"
I truly believe that when something doesn't happen it's because it wasn't meant to happen and something betters lurks just round the corner but let's be honest it's easier to say it to someone else than to apply it to yourself!

The sun returning has definitely help though and I can't wait for it to be there for longer hours so I can just go in the garden dig all the weeds, have a deep clean in the conservatory before I can make it messy again with my seedlings. 2026 you're trying to bring us down, but I've been doing okay for 36 years so might as well continue, whether it's fuel by wimsy or rage, let's stand tall for the hell of it

First saw this trend from and and well, for once I managed to jump on it on time!

Behind a business there's always someone, here it's someone that, as far as I can remember as always wanted to do a creative job, fashion designer, interior designer, illustrator, photographer... It surely would have been an easier and wealthier road if I'd wanted to be like a lawyer, an accountant or a banker, something like that... But what's the fun in that hey!

So here it is, little old me with my 10+ years of experience in photography and styling, making my way through content creation, trying to stay afloat in a social media world that is ever changing and evolving.

Following the video from a couple weeks ago, I thought I'd show you a few more photos from my shoot at Alev's in Tynemouth. When creating content for a cafe, it's not just about showing off the drinks and food (although that's a necessity!) it's also about giving a sense of the place, capturing the vibe. I absolutely loved getting those rays of sunshine in some shots, but you know, being in the North of England and by the sea, the weather is unpredictable, so I did have to cheat with my own light for a couple of photos 🤫
