Hello everyone, it's been a while since I posted anything cos it's been quite the busy summer!
Aside from a few weddings, I've mostly been helping Katie to run HAF sessions, and assisting with the Neurofest events she organised 🥳 what a success they were.
It meant a lot of lifting equipment back and forth, meeting and chatting with some lovely SEND families - some we already know and some we just met - and getting to be my usual silly self for their entertainment 😋 including doing the limbo and having a go at spinning plates, in another life I would have definitely been a literal clown 🤡
Now it's a case of catching up on editing before we go away on holiday to Gran Canaria next week ✈️ woohoo!
Also - I officially got my ADHD and Autism diagnoses 🥳 like many people in the same position: it felt long overdue, and it's a relief to finally have them.
Because for the longest time I felt like there was something desperately wrong with me, especially when it came to working for other people/companies - issues I faced seemed to have a visceral effect on me, I couldn't just switch off from problems when I got home or turn a blind eye to unfairness like other people can.
It's part of the reason I ended up starting my own business, because what seemed like depression at the time was actually a major burnout from years of trying to do more than I'm capable of, trying to appease others, and masking my emotions as best as I can.
But now I have my diagnoses - I feel validated. It means I can look back and understand why I was being an emotional wreck, as well as my disdain for poor/unfair management and arbitrary rules.
It's especially great because it means if for whatever reason I ever need to get a job working for somebody else - I can ask for reasonable adjustments to help make the working life easier, such as:
- Having clear rules and procedures set in place which I don't get told off for following.
- (If applicable) Having a sufficient amount of uniform items supplied to me and readily available when I need them.
- Being supplied with the correct amount of tools/equipment needed to complete a task.
- Not having my duties/responsibilities/working hours changed suddenly, ideally with at least a couple of weeks notice.
- Being notified of shift changes a least a week in advance.
Those are just a few examples - things that should really be a standard for employers to follow, but which some of them (for various reasons) don't want to. 🤷🏾♀️
