My ‘why’ … that’s what’s on my mind. Why I shoot weddings?
I’ve been quietly researching the impact of AI on photography for a London submission to exhibit work with a narrative around AI.
And as I have, I’ve been hit face-to-face with my ‘why’?
Why do I love photography? What does it mean?
Literally, from ‘light painting’ to ‘sharing space’ and essays from the greatest photographers - it’s never about the imagery but about the narrative.
What’s my narrative? As I continue to shoot weddings for couples, my realisation deepens how much I’m not a photographer. Not in the bare bones sense.
I’m a story teller.
I prefer to stay on the side of authentic although I truly appreciate the work that others do to set up lights etc but I find light, you’ll find me with a canon flash and a Magmod sphere.
Oh maybe some ice lights.
Oh and a couple of profotos because frankly in a pinch I can set up a studio setting for group shots.
But I will lay in the grass, stand in the rain, I reach down into my very being and look quietly and ask… how can I be the best story teller for you in this moment?
As a storyteller I become part of the days narrative.
If I’m not entertainment then I’m not doing what my calling is.
As I sit contemplating my ‘why’, I know it’s not about me but what love and support I can bring in the moment.
My cameras are there to take then the magic of the day. Almost forgotten…. Almost.
My why? Is about your story and for a brief moment in time, on your special family time I get to share it with you and capture your legacy.
Your next chapter. All fresh and bright. Shiny. And I’ll be with you as your family changes, a reminder of the narrative of the day.
I will become part of your story, maybe.
Thank you xx
