Busy day with Shannon Louise Dance Academy yesterday! It was a long day, I think about 8 million dancers and 12 million costume changes, or something like that 🤣😉 Not sure, but that's what my knees think today anyway.

Top work all round, looking forward to showing everyone the finished images soon. I'll be there for the show in a few weeks too. Costumes were brilliant too, especially the cats!

I’m excited to announce that I have availability for Dance Photoshoots next week at Fox Dance Academy’s beautiful studio in Nantwich! Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned pro, I’d love to help you capture your passion and talent in a way that showcases you and your unique style.

Details:

📅 Date: Tuesday, 18th February

🕰 Available Times: 12:35 pm & 1:10 pm

📍 Location: Fox Dance Academy Studio, Regents Park, Nantwich

These are 30-minute sessions, but you’re welcome to share a session with a friend, or I can offer multiple shorter sessions if that works better for you.

Can also include headshots if you need those.

Just so everyone knows, I'm still here!

Spring arrived, and I thought to myself that at last I'd be able to get outside for some family shoots. Of course the weather had other ideas.

Good for the grass they say. But, I don't get as many bookings for grass photoshoots as you might think.

Sooooo, if anyone needs anything that we can shoot inside, like headshots or work/business related stuff - let me know. Or anything interesting you need images for. Or anything that we can take photos of in the rain. Or if you are some grass, or a tree, or any kind of plant and you're looking pretty luscious right now. 🤙

I'm looking for a few people who:

HATE having their photograph taken, but..

NEED some NEW HEADSHOTS!

Please share or tell your friends if this might be helpful for them! :)

I know lots of people hate having their photograph taken.

That's why so many people have a profile picture that was taken on holiday last year (when you had a tan), or were half drunk at a party (and less nervous about having a camera pointed at you) or you've cropped yourself out of a shot from your cousin's wedding in 2018.

If you know you really should go and get some actual headshots taken, but also know that you also really, really don't want to... then this is an opportunity for you!

If you've 10 minutes to spare and can get to Nantwich tomorrow afternoon (Saturday 20th April), I've got a gap in-between some shoots and I just thought that this could be a good opportunity for someone!

Message me for more info or to let me know you're interested. It'll be in the afternoon between around 230pm-5pm. You literally need 10–15 minutes. You can bring a friend/relative. You can bring cake. Whatever helps!

There's nothing to pay to book. After I take them, any images you would like to buy are £25 each. No obligation to buy any, no minimum spend. You can pop in, we'll do the shoot, and you'll be back out in the fresh air 10 minutes later, done!

I'll be there to help guide you through what to do and keep you amused. If you're worried about not liking the images or embarrassed or anything at all like that, please don't be. I don't post or share anything anywhere without permission.

I can show you the images as soon as we take them, if you don't like them, I can delete them right then. (But you will like them, even without any photoshop trickery, you'll be amazed at how much difference just using the right light and the right lens makes!)

So if you've been struggling taking selfies that aren't coming out right, give up on that and please drop me a message. (Selfie tip: basically, your arms aren't long enough to make it flattering, your phone camera is too close to your face - it needs to be further away and zoomed in to fill the frame. Ask someone else to take it, or grow longer arms!)

Any questions or if you'd like to do this, please get in touch! It's a great opportunity and it's tomorrow, so you've got no time to worry about it. You can get those brand new headshots done and dusted.

Been with Miss Jolene's School of Dance all day today for two awesome shows at Crewe Lyceum. So good! Nice to see lots of familiar faces (both staff and dancers!) Thanks for having me there and for putting on such amazing shows, everyone should be so proud of themselves!! ⭐💥🤸💃👯🎉🎉🎉

Big Family Photoshoots!

Doesn't exactly feel like summer now, but it did a few weeks ago when I took these!

The hardest thing about bigger family shoots is getting everyone together. Especially if half the family live a good distance away or have weird working hours or other commitments. In which case your best bet is trying to book a photographer to come over for whatever get-togethers you have arranged - new babies, birthdays, anniversaries, parties, BBQ's... whatever you have lined up!

This shoot was a special birthday. Almost a surprise, but the family thought it best to give the birthday girl a chance to get ready!

So I went over in the morning and set about documenting the day for her. We got some shots of everybody together, also each family unit, kids + grandparents etc. It's kind of like what you might do a wedding, but you don't need a vicar or a Rolls Royce.

I don't make it too formal with group shots. They can be tricky and not the most fun for everyone, BUT...it's the only way to get everyone in one photograph! I have to at least get everyone in the same rough area, facing the right way. I do a minimal bit of tidying up or maybe getting people to move a little, but no "put your hand there, like this, now twist your left ankle, wiggle your right eyebrow, a bit less....that's it!"

It's just about minimising distractions, and really, what I want is the image to feel right. There's always plenty of scope for laughs, especially when you have more people involved, so I make the most of that and really, it's the in-between posing/formal shots that I'm after.

Then it's candids really, if you have something to do or play or kids running around, there's no need for posing. But if you have a few posers, I'm happy to accommodate!!
......

All of the above is what helps make shoots work out well for me. I never really know who I'm going to meet, or what the place will look like, or why the dynamics will be. But it always works out just right! And that's what I love about doing this. I don't really know how I manage it sometimes, I walk and talk, set the camera, find out about the people I'm with, swap stories, do my best to make the kids laugh, think about the light, think about the next shot...run and get a battery and wish I'd done that first..?

OK, this turned into a long post. The point is that these guys were all cool and we had a really good laugh! Jo (the birthday girl), was totally fab and we could have been there talking all day. She's also from near where I'm from, which was an added bonus! I had a great time, they offered me beer and snacks AND the sun was shining.

Normally the families review the photographers, but I'm going to start reviewing the families instead. So, well done Smallwood family, 5 stars! 😁

Took the kids for skateboarding lessons @ Tipkinder Park and also shot some promo images for the club. They love the classes and are already waaaay more confident after just a few weeks.

Good opportunity for me to photograph without having to direct, nice to be able to just look around and see what's interesting! 📸📸🛹🛹🛹

We've been going to skateboard lessons at Tipkinder Park near Queens Park, Crewe. Took my camera along and got a bunch of action shots... can't wait until they can jump over my head. 😀 They have a Sunday Morning club and also work with a lot of local schools. Give Nathan a shout if your kids (or you!) fancy giving it a try!
