David Osborn Photography

David Osborn Photography I am a UK based professional wildlife photographer specialising in wildlife, nature and aviation I was, I'm afraid to admit, a childhood spotter!

I've been involved with photography for longer than I'd perhaps like to remember! I had my first camera as a teenager and used it as much as I could to photograph aircraft on my regular visits to Birmingham airport. And even today still retain that lifelong love and interest in aircraft. My interest in wildlife developed from an early age, but was really re-kindled in the early eighties when i liv

ed in Germany as I enthusiastically tried to photograph wild boar in a local wood, at the same time as seeing a slide show from fellow wildlife photographer Tony Wharton. The rest, as they say, is history. Having spent a great deal of my working life in aviation, firstly as an air traffic controller and then as an airport manager, I am now a UK based professional wildlife photographer, leading my own series of Photo-tours designed as small group tours and organised specifically for the wildlife photographer and nature lover. I have over the years exhibited widely in National and International photographic salons and received many major awards, including FIAP, PSA, RPS, PAGB & BPE Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. I also regularly act as a selector for the major UK International & National series of photographic exhibitions and have been responsible for the selection of many salons with RPS, FIAP, PSA, BPE & PAGB patronage. Commercially my images have recently been used by the Advanced Photographer, RSPB, The Times, Daily Mail, FITB, Burghley Life & Ordnance Survey.

Haven't posted for a while and in truth I'm not too sure where a while keeps disappearing to. But Gary wanted to show his friend some shots of the Pakistan AF fighter jets recently at RIAT. Certainly different and certainly a show stealer if only for their participation. A real rarity and great addition to RIAT '25. Enjoy.

There's always some incredibly interesting visitors attend the Old Warden shows and even though they don't display, their early evening departures, often in beautiful light, afford some great photo opportunities. This time we've a nostalgic look back to June 2016 and another classic and beautifully turned out PT17. I'm not sure how many PT17's there are currently registered or residing in the UK and hopefully someone can tell us and I do remember the ex Coltishall Jag guys having a PT17 team somewhere in the dim and distant past and although not sticking with Shuttleworth's UK aircraft theme I do think it would be great if someone somewhere organised a PT17 fly-in, if not Shuttleworth then maybe Northrepps and I wouldn't have to drive too far!! In the meantime, enjoy this old beauty and maybe someone can give us an update on this particular aircraft.

It may have been Christmas and we may have been spending a few days away, but temptation’s never too far away!!
A lovely male Eider Duck in full breeding plumage in Seahouses harbour. Unfortunately the sun never gets quite high enough at this time of year to shine on the surface of the water, but the golden light reflecting of the sea wall did give light to some gorgeous colour even if the bird wasn't in bright sunlight. Sometimes you just have to take what you're given and this wasn't a bad way to finish the year off.

Another classic from Old Warden's September '23 airshow, this beautiful replica WW1 biplane, the Avro 504K, with nearly 9000 aircraft being built, this was for the day, a pretty damned impressive aeroplane. I think the original intention in September was to fly it together with the collections 504, but unfortunately with unserviceability's this wasn't possible which was truly a great shame. I also seem to remember it being mentioned that the owner was looking for a sponsor to continue flying the aircraft or it would have to be sold - does anyone know if there's any news or outcome? Anyway, it was lovely to see and lets hope that it wasn't the last chance to see it airborne in the UK.

Something a little different this time. A drone shot of the beautiful St. Margaret's church at Cley next the sea, the clouds were so nice that I decided to convert the image to B&W and create a more old fashioned looking image. It certainly looks very effective and I'm really happy with final the result. I hope you all enjoy the shot and Merry Christmas to one and all.

Delving back into the archives of the Shuttleworth shows today we're looking back to August 2009 a time when there seemed to be no end to the amount of Luftwaffe aircraft displaying in the UK. Here we have the WW2 era Bucker 181 Bestmann and a beautiful example, beautifully displayed. With over 3000 being built obviously an incredibly popular little aircraft and another fabulous veteran aircraft showing off it's finer lines over the Old Warden skies. I'm sure someone will tell us, but where is it now?

It rained for most of September, it rained for most of October, it rained for most of November and guess what, so far it's rained for most of December. Most of the time it's just dull and grey but occasionally and if you're in the right place at the right time it can however be rather dramatic. A shot taken from the drone to give a little height and depth to the image. Oncoming and threatening storm clouds last week at Cley on the North Norfolk coast.

A rather beautiful and often over-looked little gem in the Old Warden stables is this rather wonderful early 1930's biplane, the Parnall Elf and if ever there was an award for one of the prettiest little biplanes, then this must be up there with the best, really beautifully turned out and presented.
One of only 3 ever built from that golden era of aviation and for many years it has been and is the only one remaining in the world - really difficult to take on board sometimes exactly how many times you can actually say that about a number of the collections aircraft. All in all another classic masterpiece from the Shuttleworth collection.

Another nostalgic look back at some of the classic 'old' aircraft that over the years have participated in the Shuttleworth air shows.
This time we're going back to the Navy day of 2016 when the Navy's Sea Vixen still graced the skies. It seemed rather topical as the aircraft has now been sold and the new owners are looking to gain funds and take her back to Bournemouth. I'm guessing as costs are so prohibitive that we'll never see the likes of this classic old jet in the air again or few other types either, it is of course a great shame but money talks and there's not too much about to throw at old high performance military jets. So enjoy while we can.

My coat, gloves and drone have been sat waiting all day for the fog to clear to give rise to some atmospheric aerial shots. Regrettably the fog has never cleared and it may have even got thicker, so best laid plans and all that!!
Anyway here's something a little more colourful for a dull and dismal grey day. This may not be the most handsome of birds but my goodness what a striking and beautifully coloured bird this Roseate Spoonbill is.
A warm and colouful bird for a grey, grotty winters day!!

There's no doubt that Shuttleworth stages some classic airshows where some of the rarest vintage aircraft in the world display, but not to be over shadowed by the displaying aircraft these wonderful airshows also attract some classic aircraft flying-in to attend the shows in their own right and over the years we've seen some fabulous visitors both modern and old, here back at the September event we see a departing Boeing PT17, a fabulous old training aircraft, all silver glowing into a setting sun, simply gorgeous.

Looking back into the Shuttleworth archives again and over the years the show organisers really have shown us some classic aircraft formations. This time we're looking back to the Navy day June 2016 where the RN historic flight showed us the wonderful Swordfish in formation with the collections Gladiator. A classic almost one off of two classic biplanes in formation. Where else but Old Warden and where else in the world could you see this! (Well maybe Duxtord?) Non the less a fabulous sight.
