‘Ophelia’
Inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the beautiful Ophelia is suffering in the misfortunes perpetrated upon her.
Ophelia is a tragic, insane character that cannot exist on her own. In Elizabethan times, Ophelia is restricted as a woman. She is obedient to the commands of the men in her life. Polonius, Laertes, and Hamlet all have a grasp on Ophelia and who she is.
Ophelia has issues surviving without a male influence, and her downfall is when all the men in her life abandon her.
After the murder of her father by her beloved Hamlet, Ophelia falls into insanity and dies a tragic death, drowning in a brook.
The fact that this grief drives Ophelia to madness reveals her overwhelming feelings of hopelessness and powerlessness, and the power that the men in Ophelia's life wield over her.
