The greatest gift we can give our children isn't more stuff... it's our time.

We've just returned from the most magical week in Finland!!

No endless scrolling.
No constant notifications.
Very little WiFi.

Just us. Together.

Talking, laughing, exploring and making memories we'll be talking about for years to come. We are still reeling from it.

It reminded me of something I've always believed;

Time is the one thing we can never get back.

As our eldest prepares to leave Primary School, I'm finding myself wondering where the years have gone. One minute you're holding their hand on their first day at school, and the next they're preparing for the next big chapter.

Which brings me to Father's Day...

Let's be honest, most dads would never book a family photoshoot for themselves. In fact, many would rather avoid being in front of the camera altogether!

But do you know what happens afterwards?

They're often the ones who stop and smile every time they walk past the photograph on the wall.

Because it's never really about the photo.

It's about their family.
Their children.
Their memories.

The laughter.
The chaos.
The cuddles.
This season of life.

How you feel about yourself is often half the battle when it comes to how you think you look in photos.

So many people say to me before a shoot:

“I hate having my photo taken.”
“I never like pictures of myself.”
“I’m not photogenic.”

But so often, it’s not the camera at all. It’s the way we’ve learnt to speak to ourselves.

The habit of noticing flaws before strengths.
The self-criticism.
The pressure to look “perfect.”

And if you go into a photoshoot already believing you won’t like what you see…that feeling often follows you into the final images.

Which is why mindset matters so much!

As Roald Dahl said:

“If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams.”

I truly believe that.

When you feel relaxed, confident and kinder to yourself…it shows.

Your eyes soften.
Your smile becomes real.
Your whole energy changes.

So this is your reminder today:

Talk to yourself like you would your best friend;

Be gentle.
Be brave.
Celebrate your individuality.

Because the most beautiful thing about you has never been perfection, it’s you.

And when you start believing that, the change you see in yourself can be incredible!

Did you know flamingos lose their colour after having babies? 🦩

It’s true.

Their bright pink fades as they raise their young…pouring everything into them. Only when their chicks grow up and fly the nest does their colour slowly return.

And I couldn’t help but think…how many of us feel exactly the same?!?

You go from feeling like you; confident, capable, full of life…
To pouring everything into your children.
Your time. Your energy. Your identity.
Until one day you catch your reflection and think…
“Where did I go?”

The sunshine is back, the rain has eased, and everything feels a little lighter ☀️

After a heavy season (in more ways than one), I’ve been reflecting on how precious this time really is; the ordinary days, the noisy chaos, the hands we hold without realising how quickly they grow (and then don’t want to hold ours).

If your Branding Photos for your Business are feeling a bit lifeless, it’s not your camera. It’s the setup.

Maybe you’ve kept things minimal for the sake of cohesion. One neutral corner, one flattering pose, one lovely moment. But here’s what most creatives miss.

When every image comes from the same space, your brand feels paused. Like a still frame without a story. And the truth is, people need to see the journey, not just the destination.

Because without context, there’s no connection. And without connection, bookings fall away.

This isn’t about having done it "wrong". It’s just that too much of your client experience is being left out of frame.

So, as we step into this next season, here’s a gentle shift to tell the full story, the one your audience is quietly craving.

Try a B-roll Style shoot. Here’s how it works:

• Let each space reveal a part of your process
Use more than one room. Show your prep, your work in motion, even the handover. This gives people a tangible sense of how you operate, and why it matters.

• Keep moving, no posing, just realness
Stay in your rhythm while I quietly follow with the camera. No breaks, no scripts. Just content that feels natural and draws people in.

• Start with a micro step
Film one tiny moment. Clearing your desk, setting out tools. No words, no pressure. Just your real pace in a real setting, and yes, the energy shifts instantly.

Because what people want isn’t perfection. It’s the truth.

When they can feel your process, they don’t just see the value. They trust it. They come closer. They book.

Building Confidence in You and Your Business: The Art of Self-Belief

Life is full of experiences, the good, the bad, and the downright difficult. But it’s what we do after those moments that really shapes us.

Over the years, I’ve learned that nothing is truly “bad” it’s often an opportunity to learn, grow, and adapt. The bravest thing you can do is to accept what’s happened, take what you’ve learned from it, and use that insight to move forward. There’s real strength in that, both in business and in life.

Now, I’m no life coach (I’ll leave that to my wonderfully talented friend Claire Robertson Coaching, who truly helps people turn self-doubt into self-belief). But I have lived through my fair share of experiences: some incredible, some heartbreaking. Add to that 16 years of running my own photography business and I can honestly say, it’s been a journey of passion, purpose, and perseverance.

What I love most about my work, whether in family or brand photography is connecting with people. Having those real, open conversations that bring out confidence and authenticity in front of the camera. Seeing someone’s energy shift during a shoot when they suddenly see themselves the way others do - that’s the magic for me.

It’s an incredible privilege to help women (and men too!) be seen and feel seen. Because at the end of the day, we’re all human. We all want to belong, to be valued, and to show up confidently in who we are especially in business.
