Some photos from a brilliant Introduction to the art department with production designer Dafydd Shurmer whose credits include Doctor Who, Sherlock and Lady Chatterley’s lover.

We also had a tour round BBC Roath Lock studios in Cardiff Bay, home to the set of casualty which is so well constructed it even smells like a hospital.

Springboard week at NFTS Beaconsfield.

All of the prime video trainees and apprentices met in London for the NFTS’s induction week where they welcome the new students. This meant we could tag along for some truly inspirational masterclasses with the likes of Stephen Graham and Alex Garland.

Stephen Graham got two standing ovations after talking about his humble beginnings, funny Hollywood stories and his close collaboration with his wife during his awesome career.

We also got to attend workshops on a variety of different departments such as virtual production (LED wall), unscripted development and sound design.

Plus a trip to Amazon HQ in London which is just what you’d expect, free coffee and healthy breakfast everywhere, over complicated lifts and tight security.

Week 3 included a trip to BBC Bristol for production unlocked a series of masterclasses and Q&A’s on a wide array of topics.

There were many brilliant speakers not limited to but including Bertie Gregory, a wildlife filmmaker and now presenter on his own Disney+ show.
Also writer-director Alice Seabright, an NFTS graduate who’s worked on s*x education and created her own BBC series Chloe.

Highlights from Week 2

Full time training began with an introduction to Assistant Directing and the locations department, Two areas I’m very interested in.

This included a fictitious location scout of Cardiff castle where we were shown two possible locations that have previously been used in Dr Who and Sherlock. In Sherlock they made Cardiff castle appear to be the Tower of London 🤯
