🎃 Spooktacular 02 - Silent Churches ⛪

The old gods are fighting a seemingly losing battle. Their disciples appear to have moved on, tempted away by the new gods of technology and the bright and shiny future they promise. Religious buildings shutter their doors as congregations shrink. The once hallowed halls now home to spiders and pigeons.

What's happening? The largest seal hospital in Europe, Zeehondencentrum Pieterburen, needs our help. The futures of 70 seals currently in their care hang in the balance. Join my donation drive today, and get a free Silly Seal Postcard in the mail!

As well as abandoned places, I also spend a lot of time photographing wild seals around the UK. In support of Zeehondcentrum, I’m sending out free postcards featuring some of my favourite photos that capture the antics and characters of these wonderful creatures.

🎃 Spooktacular 01 - Creepy Abandoned Hospitals 🏥

💉Kill or cure; these decaying medical facilities are long closed. Asylums, their long corridors with peeling paint and smashed windows. Almost pristine hospitals, with the power still on and beds still made. Silent operating theatres and empty wards.

Let me know in the comments what you think this guilty little girl has been locked-up for.

(FYI - Tulip is one of the patients at Caithness Seal Rehab & Release. where I am currently working as a volunteer. Just feeling silly and wanted to share a cute photo of her!)

☠️ An old mausoleum, the final resting place of a wealthy family. Somewhere in Germany.

A striking Neoclassical rotunda, featuring a dome of coffered panels with a central opening (or oculus). Light floods in through this opening, illuminating the above-ground part of the mausoleum.

A wide stone staircase, with an ornate metal railing, leads down to the undercroft. The underground area of this mausoleum holds the coffins of the family.

👮🇩🇪 An abandoned police training academy, left to rot 15 years ago. Germany

The site dates to the 1930s, originally serving as a military barracks. During the Second World War, the military stationed replacement units here. Medical staff also used the space to care for wounded personnel.

Following the war, the complex transitioned into a police training school. The site was remodelled and modernised in 2010, and several blocks were relegated to redundancy.

I have taken my website offline temporarily while I await for super-brainy tech people to release a confirmed fix. Just a precaution to keep everything safe. I hope to be online again soon 💙

Rendered obsolete when the broadcasts switched to satellite broadcasts., it lay abandoned for many years before being demolished.

🔥Our history, going up in flames! What is happening in the UK? Fires are destroying so many of our historical Victoria mills.

Dalton Mills in Keighley had yet another "mysterious" fire a few weeks ago. I explored this spot a few years ago, now all this history is lost.

For future generations, I worry how much will be left of our British industrial heritage.
