🚢 The Pearl of the Dane, Congleton in England. Moored at the riverside, this abandoned floating restaurant closed around 25 years ago. The tides of misfortune have now turned, and she is currently under renovation!

The vessel began life as a 1970s Danish deep-sea fishing trawler, its oak hull measuring 60 feet long. In the mid-1990s, a businessman purchased the boat. It travelled from its mooring in Wales via sea, river, canal, and road with a police es**rt.

It was refitted to resemble a 1920s Mississippi River steamboat; adding a paddle-wheel housing and a tall funnel completed the transformation.

The 80-seater restaurant served seafood, shark, crocodile tail, and ostrich stew. Turnover hit £200,000 in the first year, but its popularity was short-lived. Only 18 months later, the restaurant closed its doors.

🌿🏮An abandoned Italian villa sits within large, overgrown grounds filled with exotic trees and plants.

The owner built an immense botanical collection; the most precious specimens were once housed in this beautiful greenhouse

While the villa is captivating to photograph, the Japan-inspired glasshouse is the highlight for me.

🦖RAWR! What's your favourite dinosaur?

Silly self-portrait with a vintage statue of a T-Rex lurking in an abandoned theme park in Germany. Rexy has a rather retro upright pose! Scientists ditched this posture in the late 80s/early 90s. Guess this guy didn't get the memo. 😂

This burnt-out car dealership is the ruins of Southgate Works, Preston. It looks like a post-apocalyptic scene from the series. Twisted car shells and orange oxidised metal fill the collapsed warehouse.

Approximately 150 vehicles were inside when the fire started. Heat melted window glass, which pooled across the floor. Investigators confirmed the fire was an arson attack. A few months after my visit, the site was cleared.

An abandoned theatre in Pennsylvania, USA. The auditorium was built in the early 1900s. The plays hosted here drew 20,000 patrons a year in the 1920s. Shows ended in the early 2010s as attendance dropped. Today, the building is marked with graffiti and is a decaying ruin.

🆕🚗🇵🇹 New location feature: Fantastic Flying Fiats, Portugal

This pair of rusting, abandoned 1950s Italian family cars rest at the edge of a field in central Portugal. The vehicles sit in the shade of mature oak trees as their paintwork fades.

The green Fiat rests precariously balanced on a rusted oil barrel and low stone wall. The nose-end points skyward. This creates a striking scene, making the car look like it is about to take flight!

A few paces away, the pale blue Fiat rests level with the ground, retaining its original grille and central fog light. Bright yellow lichen covers the pale green paintwork on the hood, while ivy begins to clamber over the doors.
