One less thing on my bucket list 📝

We came across Ciaran’s story unexpectedly this morning in his Uber on our way to the station to finish off our five-day shooting trip.

His son Oliver has hearing loss and had to rely on hearing aid to be able to connect to the world normally as other kids. Thanks to the help and support from The National Deaf Children Society, 4-year old Oliver is now able to pick up on the languages and speech development. But no matter what, Ciaran said Oliver is always have a big smile on his face. And that’s why Ciaran decided to do this charity marathon this year in October (probably the only marathon he might do in his life according to him) to give something back and raise awareness for other children like Oliver.

We also did a little research on our train back. Apparently international, Population-based studies in Europe and North America have identified a consistent prevalence of approximately 0.1% of children having a hearing loss of more than 40 decibels (dB) through review of health or education records, or both. (Reference: https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/hearingloss/data.html) And The impairment can lead to failure in school, teasing by peers, social isolation, and emotional difficulties.

So we decided to make our own contribution to his fund raising and hope to share his story to more people to raise awareness of this group.
