UNDERSTORY | AWOL Residents’ Exhibition 🏭✨

A look back at ‘Understory’, our residents’ exhibition celebrating the work of 28 AWOL artists as part of our annual Open Day! ✨

Bringing together an awesome range of artwork, showcasing the creativity, ideas and practices flourishing within our studios!

CALL ME COVERGIRL!!!! Y’allllllll im gagged. My work, is the cover for Create! Magazine® TEN year anniversary book. The book is 2 volumes and one of my Alibii collages is the cover for volume II . This is not a drill. This is my first book cover‼️

And create magazine was the first publication to publish my artwork. I have been published in two editions, one curated by Larry Ossei-Mensah and the other was an interview spread with an essay covered by Ellen Mara De Wachter.

Ekaterina Popova has been doing so much for the artist community over the past 10 years. She has invited me to present for her Art Queens community and provided opportunities for exhibiting work . I’m grateful for you Ekaterina Popova , you deserve your flowers my love. Congratulations on 10 years 💕💐

✨ Thank You All for an incredible AWOL Studios Open Day! ✨

What a day! We’ve just about recovered from one of our most successful Open Days yet, and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along, explored the studios, met our artists and supported our creative community.

Every visit, conversation and purchase makes a difference. Supporting your local creatives means so much, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who continues to support the artists and independent creative spaces that make Manchester special.

A massive thank you to our wonderful residents for opening their studios and sharing their work with you all. Thank you to David French, our director, for everything he does to support AWOL and our neighbours CCA for opening their beautiful gallery doors 💘
Plus amazing Ed for keeping everyone fed with those delicious burritos! 🌯

A special thank you to Alex Crooked Cartoon for another brilliant Open Day poster, and to Totem Wolf (Manchester) and Sid Cooper Art for organising our awesome residents’ afterparty! 🥂🕺🪩

We raised £505 for Dogs 4 Rescue 🐾💘🙌
A huge thank you to everyone who donated to our donations bar at our AWOL Studios Open Day! ❤️

Thanks to your generosity, we raised £305 in donations, with AWOL Studios contributing a further £200, bringing the total to an amazing £505 for Dogs 4 Rescue! 🐶

We’re delighted to be able to support the fantastic work they do for dogs in need.
Thank you to everyone who came along, supported the bar and helped us raise money for a great cause! ❤️🐾

The day has finally arrived!✨🏭
Head down 1-7pm today for our annual AWOL Open Studios!

Come and support your local creatives abc explore five floors of working studios inside the Grade II* former cotton mill, Hope Mill, meeting the artists, makers and creatives who call AWOL home.

Alongside the studios, there’ll be:

Understory - a group exhibition of work by AWOL residents - 2nd floor
— independent exhibition on the 5th floor
Donation Bar - Raising money for
- Burritos - food available throughout the day
- open with creative activities

✨ Plus lots of open studios, demonstrations, workshops and things to discover throughout the day!
