Last year this race chewed me up.

No views. No light.

Just thick fog and mud that stuck to everything.

I showed up with a plan — Yorkshire showed up with different ideas.

So I adapted. Leaned into the grim.

Shot it exactly how it felt. No filters. No pretending.

And honestly? Those photos hit harder than anything I could’ve planned.

This weekend, we go again. Maybe the weather will play nice. Maybe it won’t.

Either way, the athletes are getting the kind of shots their effort deserves.

📷 Nothing staged. Nothing fake.

Just real moments, caught in motion.

Let’s see what the hills have in store.

Some shots don’t just freeze a moment — they ignite a whole new chapter.

This was one of them.

I’ve always loved the challenge of capturing motion — the creativity, the explosiveness, the story written in every muscle.

Boxing. Crossfit. Martial arts. Power caught mid-move. But this shoot? It opened up new ideas in me.

Up until then, playing with movement and blur had been more hit-or-miss. I’d dip into it...then play it safe again.

This time, it clicked.
The colors.
The energy.
The chaos that somehow made perfect sense in a frame.

And just like that, one project led to the next and Just Dance was born. Because once you taste that freedom — that raw, electric creativity — you can’t go back.

And no, it didn’t all come easy. Some shots worked. Some didn’t. Some had to be stitched from multiple shots to bring the vision home.

Huge thanks to for trusting the process — and to every mover, dancer, and athlete who's been part of this evolution. You’re the story. I’m just lucky to be behind the lens.

Stay tuned… More coming soon.

There’s precision. And then there’s Damon Sansum.

Shot this as part of The Long Road project — and this frame hits different. Not just because of the height, the control, or the perfect form... but because of how calm he is in the middle of it.

Rep after rep, every time the same. Inch perfect.

This wasn’t a lucky shot. Damon’s movement is surgical. Every shift of weight, every breath — intentional.
We’d already shot portraits, (check for those next week) but when he locked into his kicks, the room got quiet. No need to yell. Just a pro doing what he does — like it’s coded into his body.

👊 Athlete:
🎯 Shot for The Long Road

Having shot a lot of fast paced sport over the years, I know the difference between a kick that is held (to make it easier for the photographer) and one that is thrown full speed.

The muscles work differently, and I would never ask an athlete to do this.

This was the second frame we shot of this kick, shooting on medium format, no burst mode here… 😎

It’s not just about catching the action. It’s about capturing the control behind it.

When you're covering a race, it's easy to switch off and shoot the same things a hundred times. So I set myself min creative challenges throughout the day.... I saw these signs and wanted to get a shot that felt balanced.

Here's what I came up with... I love that the runners are all on the same leg and the sign are perfectly readable.

Now with this shot in the bag, I can happily move on and figure out my next challenge...

Shot for GB Ultras Community on the Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra this weekend.

I'm on the hunt for some new dancers, Bboys and Bgirls, trickers, even martial artists to take part in the next stage of my Just Dance project. I'm looking for people who can perform dynamic movements such as jumps and acrobatics and be local to the North West (Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds etc)

Looking to shoot over the next few weeks. Please tag anyone who might be interested.

Here is a link to some of the images I've produced so far...

When I cover an event so epic in scale as GB Ultras Yr Wyddfa Snowdon Ultra, I want to deliver something unique.

Yes, there will be photos of people grinning and smiling throughout the day, but in between those moments, I am looking for something more. Something which captures the mood of the athletes, something different.

If you’ve never run a mountain ultra before, it’s very hard to describe what that looks like. But hopefully these photos will give you a feel for it.

It’s the anticipation, the isolation, the breathtaking scenery and the sheer vastness of the mountain.

That’s what I try to capture.

Until next time…

Inspired by the amazing surfing photo that was taken at the Olympics the other day, I finally got around to editing this of the big man, Kieran Leith.

Still to come in this series. A baker, ice skater, lacrosse player, and many more… 😂 give it another year and maybe I’ll get them done! 🙈

Shot at M Squared, not a wave in sight. Amazing what you can do with a bit of CGI and photoshop hey? 😘😎

Last month, in between running up and down mountains shooting ultra running events, I got to shoot an amazing project with the team at Dear Evan Hansen - West End

I created the cast images in the studio and then overlaid them with CGI. And I'm pretty darn happy with how they turned out!

DEH will be touring later this year and coming to Manchester along with many other places, and I will be front row singing along!

This weekend I'm heading north to cover GB Ultras Ultra Scotland 50 and 100 mile races.

This image that was recently awarded a highly commended from The Society of Photographers was shot during the last event I covered, the Pennine Barrier 50 mile even.

It was taken at the top of Pen-y-ghent (honest...😂) and the awful conditions just added to the drama.

Race photography is very new to me, I spent most of last year running these races so I know just what it takes to complete one of these challenges. To be entrusted with capturing images of these amazing athletes and capturing the highs and lows that happen during a race is a really special feeling. And to get my first award for documentart photography is very cool as well! 😎

Now if the weather could play ball this time, that'd be great...😂
