The Whitworth Art Gallery has opened after a long hiatus. It is obviously not in full swing, nor will it be until spring at least, but at least it is open. Many believe Art is fundamental, and luckily those in charge agree. Opening galleries is a clear and welcome sign. They may lack pizazz at the moment, (it is as though they are returning to their fundamentals) and not all rooms are open but the staff are welcoming and you can wander the space at your leisure.

Manchester Art Gallery opened on Thursday the 20th of August. Under current circumstances things are different. You have to book in advance, specifying a time slot, I got a really convenient one. You have to wear a mask, and a number of the galleries are not open. But many favourites are on display, you always notice something you have not seen before, like a painting by Barbara Hepworth, and of course there are always new works. In this case by The Jerwood Makers exhibition. There was no problem with social distancing, the staff seemed friendlier than ever, it was great to be back!

With the pandemic everything changes, and we have to find different ways to manage. It turns out you can even teach people how to use a Sewing Machine over Zoom!
