Exciting news! NWFP is hosting our first photowalk of 2026 - Hebden Bridge! 🎞️🚂

Whether you’re shooting a beat-up point-and-shoot or a heavy duty medium format rig, come along for a wander through one of Yorkshire’s most picturesque towns.

The Plan:
• 11:00 AM: Meet at Hebden Bridge Station for intros and a heritage architecture warm-up.
• The Route: We’ll head along the Rochdale Canal, tackle the famous (and very steep!) cobbles of The Buttress, and explore the “town that time forgot”—Heptonstall.
• The Finish: We’ll wrap up around 4:00 PM at The Stubbing Wharf for a well-earned pint and some gear chat by the water.

Our Feature this week is - Thanks for featuring Tom, take it away!!

“I’m from Manchester originally but currently live in Shropshire, but I’ll always be a Mancunian wherever I go”

NWFP: What initially drew you to film photography, and what keeps you inspired to continue shooting on film in a digital age?

"I wanted to slow down, particularly when taking photos of my kids and family. I was taking hundreds, if not thousands, of photos on my phone but never taking any time to appreciate them. I’m absolutely hooked on film now, the process, the look, the warmth to it"

NWFP:Are there any specific film stocks or cameras that you prefer to use, and why?

"My favourite camera is the Mamiya RB67 Pro-S. If I can’t be bothered to lug that around I’ll go with my Yashica Mat-124G. My trusty Canon AE-1 is always by my side. Film wise I mainly shoot black and white, I’m particularly loving Ilford FP4+ currently, and Kentmere 400. If I want colour then Kodak Gold or Lomography 400"

NWFP: How do you choose your subjects or themes for your photos and what draws you to capture certain moments or scenes?

"My favourite thing is spending a couple of hours with one person strolling around a cool place, just spotting cool locations and figuring out what would look good. Otherwise I like to stand in a busy spot in a city and take candid street photos as moments appear."

Thanks Tom. We love the photographs you have shared with us here! Great atmosphere and compositions.

This week our Feature is Freyathomson. Take it away Freya!

I'm originally from York but have been living in Manchester since 2018.

NWFP: What initially drew you to film photography, and what keeps you inspired to continue shooting on film in a digital age?

"I bought a second-hand film camera off eBay in the 2020 lockdown out of absolute boredom. I took a few photos back then, but I wasn't impressed with how they turned out. It sat unused in my bedroom for a few years. It's only in the past year that I picked it up again. I've since become obsessed with film. I started out with black and white film but I've recently started trying out colour film too. At the moment, I'm not interested in digital cameras. There's something special about film that can't be replicated. A bit like a record. I'm not that interested in the technicalities much either. I just like taking a picture, and seeing how it turns out. Sometimes it's better than you expected, sometimes it's worse. You never know. There's always an element of surprise. It's a form of self-expression and I find it extremely satisfying. "

NWFP:Are there any specific film stocks or cameras that you prefer to use, and why?

"I'm relatively new to the world of film so I only have one film camera: an Olympus Trip 35. I bought it because it said it was easy-to-use and I didn't want anything complicated because I'm not very technical! I tend to buy good quality film because it seems that you get what you pay for. I use Ilford for black and white film. I've also tried cinematic film and expired film. I'm still experimenting with different kinds of film so it's hard for me to say what I prefer."

NWFP: How do you choose your subjects or themes for your photos and what draws you to capture certain moments or scenes?
"I tend to just bring my camera out if I'm going somewhere, especially if it's somewhere new because I think it's easier to photograph a place you've never been before. You can look at it with fresh eyes. "
