Long time no post I hear you say! 🤦🏽‍♂️

I do apologise - I’ve been busy 👀

Here’s Napo at Chester Zoo creeping around the bush, playing games with us keen photographers 😅

This duo of Napo and Goshi are certainly the most difficult Big Cats I am on the prowl to snap some shots of! However, I don’t spend as much time at the Jags as I would like to…

Did You Know… 💭
The jaguar is the third biggest cat in the world - after the tiger and the lion - and is the largest cat in the Americas. They can grow up to 170cm long, not including their impressive tails which can be up to 80cm.

Males can weigh 120kg (that’s almost 19 stone), but the size of jaguars can vary a lot between regions - jaguars in central America can be roughly half the size of jaguars in the Pantanal. They need that bulk behind them to take on big prey, including giant caiman. 🐊

- Baby Isa -

It’s 🥳
A throwback to when the pups were still tiny! 😍 This is definitely one of my favourite Otter photographs I’ve taken of Isa when she was just a tiny pup! 🥰

I was VERY lucky to have seen these little ones when they first stepped outside for the first time that visitors could see them 😌

Did You Know.... 💭
When the young are born, they weigh about 50g and are about 14cm in length. Their eyes stay closed until they are 5 weeks old. When they are 7 weeks old they learn to swim.

So smol! 🤏🏽

Sticking with the ZSL Whipsnade Zoo theme to my first posts for this page - and yet another one of my favourite species.

The Eurasian Lynx has become one of my FAVOURITE cats to see at Zoos, I could only dream of seeing Lynx in the wild - whether that be the whiff of hope that we have in living alongside them here in the UK or travelling to see them across Europe or even their Canadian counterparts in Canada and North America!

There are ongoing tests and trials to see if it’s possible to release a group of Lynx individuals into the UK’s most rural areas - to try and help these become a part of our wildlife here in the UK. This will help with forestry and help keep overpopulation of some of our wildlife stable.

Praying for a bright future for these kitties 😌

It’s TIGER TUESDAY! 🐅⚡️

Today I’m introducing you to another of the ZSL Whipsnade Zoo Amur Tiger cubs!

The majestic, yet clumsy, Dmitri!

Brother to Czar (previously posted) and Makari, Dmitri takes on the role as the clumsy, funny brother who will give almost anything a try!

Dmitri is distinguishable by the markings above his eye on our left - looks almost like a sideways number 5! This is a common way that conservationists and zoologists can recognise specific individuals. However some have their own ways of telling apart individuals.

Introducing another of my favourite faces at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, Tashi 🥰

Tashi is a twelve-year-old Red Panda, which are native to China in the wild!

In her lifetime, she’s given birth to seven cubs - most recent of those being Nīlō, who was born on June 16th 2020!

She loves to spend her days munching bamboo and sleeping on her favourite branch! As well as keeping an eye on her naughty and mischievous almost 10 month old Cub!

Absolutely cannot wait to get back to ZSL Whipsnade Zoo and see Tashi and cub, Nīlō again! 🥰📸

My next post will be introducing you to yet another of my favourites from ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, before we move on to introducing you to some of my favourites at Whipsnade’s world famous sister Zoo, ZSL London Zoo 👀

Calling all Elephant fans!! 🐘

Let me introduce to you, one of my other main favourite animals at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo - Elizabeth or ‘Beth’ 🥰

Beth is a 4 year old (5 this year) Asiatic Elephant who LOVES making a splash in her pool and getting into mischief with her ‘bestie’, Donna! Whom I’ll introduce at a later date!

This is quite possibly one of my favourite shots I’ve taken of Elizabeth, you’ll often see Elephants doing what you see in this image - Getting themselves wet and throwing mud and dirt on to themselves as a way of creating a kind of sunscreen 🧴

I hope you enjoyed this spotlight on Beth and if you’d like to know more about the Elephants at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, visit the link below!

https://www.zsl.org/meet-our-elephant-family

And if you REALLY love Elephants, you can adopt them by visiting this link below:

https://shop.zsl.org/content/adoption-elephants

These adoptions are vital, not only supporting the Elephants at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, but saving Elephants globally. What’s better than that!? 🥰🐘

Recently, I posted a photo of Czar - one of three Amur Tiger Cubs at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo and also mentioned that he’s become special to me in the time I’ve been photographing him.

In October 2020, ZSL used my image of Czar for a double page spread/spotlight on capturing this image of him!

Check it out in the images below! I’ve posted a digital version of the double page spread so that you can read my article as it was written in ZSL Wild About! ☺️

Today is my favourite day of the week - TIGER TUESDAY!
Why? Because if you don’t know already, Tigers are my favourite animal!

To celebrate, I’m posting this image of Czar - an Amur Tiger cub at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

Czar is one of 3 brothers born at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, the other two are Makari and Dmitri, which I’ll be posting over the next couple of weeks (on Tuesdays!), these boys are sons to father ‘Botzman’ and mother ‘Naya’

Naya moved to Parc Des Felines, in France, early 2020.

Father ‘Botzman’ now lives with his new partner ‘Dominika’ at Highland Wildlife Park in Scotland.

Czar is the handsome one of the bunch, a bit of a show off! And spends most of his time sitting around like big cats do and simply looking stunning! 🥰

More on Czar and this image will be coming later - so stay tuned and have a great day! ⚡️

Welcome to Luke Capeling Photography 📸

I am a 26 year old photographer from Maidstone, Kent.
I photograph almost anything that grabs my eye and imagination, but for the most part, I specialise in Zoo and Wildlife Photography.

The aim of this page is to bring you my best images of some of the most exciting animals from Zoos and Wildlife across the United Kingdom.

In the past couple of years, I’ve been to some incredible places and captured some breathtaking moments with my Sony A7 and Sony A7II Mirrorless cameras.

For years now, I’ve developed a love and passion for Wildlife Conservation. As, without Zoos, many of the animals we believe should be wild and free, sadly wouldn’t exist.

Having spent much of my free time at Zoos across the United Kingdom, and elsewhere in the world, I’ve developed a good relationship with many notable zoos, charities and organisations as well as making incredible friendships with the keepers, staff and volunteers - all of which play a vital role in keeping zoos working tirelessly around the clock and playing a vital role in preserving wildlife all around the world.

A few notable pieces I’ve been fortunate enough for my photography to contribute towards are:

- ZSL Wild About Magazine / Double Page Feature
Autumn 2020
- ZSL Wild About Magazine / Members Photo Gallery
(Tied with the ZSL.org Members Photo Blog entry)
Spring 2021
- Paradise Wildlife Park 2021 Calendar Feature
(Month of December)
- Featured multiple times on Paradise Wildlife Park
Social Media

As well as Raising £150 in proceeds shared between 5 zoos from my sale of a limited run of Calendars I had made of my images.
These Zoos were:
ZSL London Zoo
ZSL Whipsnade Zoo
Colchester Zoo
Chester Zoo
Paradise Wildlife Park

I believe 2021 can be an amazing year, ofcourse a year for rebuilding - I’m excited to see what comes of 2021 and hope you can follow me in this photo journey!

Cheers,

Luke Capeling.
