Goodbye August, I managed to avoid posting for the whole month! It was accidental, but I was enjoying living real life instead šŸ˜‚ā¤ļø

It’s been busy, editing, enquiries, discovery calls, shoots and 17 days away in Scotland. We travelled up to the north western Outer Hebrides Isle of Harris where we stayed in a lovely wee cottage in Seilebost, on the Luskentyre bay. We fell in love with the white sandy beaches & turquoise water, it’s only when you get in the water you realise it’s not the Med or Caribbean, it’s the cold Atlantic! We had two separate off shore wind days, one brought calm waters great for paddle boarding, the next day it was whipping the ocean up in a frothy mood, great for surfing & playing. The kids learned a few sea faring lessons that day! We also took our bikes on the ferry from Leverburgh to Berneray and cycled on North Uist for the day, it was windy, hilly and felt even more remote than Harris!

I’d go back in a heartbeat, I miss the beach, I miss hot chocolate at Talla na Mara, I miss the views, the peace and quiet, I do not miss the midges šŸ˜‚

It was nice to use my camera for me, to capture landscapes I wanted, landmarks and my family. I had a problem with my zoom lens which meant I couldn’t use it, a bit annoying but hey ho! I enjoyed flying our drone (when the wind was ok) and using my DJI Nano on my paddle board & bike. I’ve so much video to edit šŸ˜‚ But I didn’t get some photos I would have liked as the weather didn’t allow! None the less, the purpose was family time, adventure, rest & memories so mission accomplished! Here’s a few favourites from a stunning island. SlĆ inte!

It’s that time again where I realise how quickly each month goes! July was Jekyll & Hyde, very slow work wise but busy personally. A worry but also a joy. Either there’s a major problem with my marketing or simply that small businesses aren’t looking for photographers, I’ve no idea which! However, August has started positively 😊

July was my youngest’s last month of primary school so we had lots going on, fun days out for her class and events for parents to join in too. In that respect, it was joyful and emotional, lots of ā€˜lasts’ which of course I captured as well as enjoying ā¤ļø

Now we’re off to the outer Hebrides soon, I’m looking forward to enjoying the scenery, biking, snorkelling, time out & capturing some landscapes. I’ll also look forward to receiving client questionnaires so I can start planning some brand shoots, I’m excited to work with these ladies šŸ˜€

How was July for you?

Did you know we can capture video clips during your photography session? It can be anything from a few seconds of movement to planned clips that can stitched together for a promotional short film with voiceovers or music. This is just a small selection of what we captured at a recent minis day. The last clip is how one client has used her video on her socials, I love seeing clients used their video! ā¤ļø

If you want a chat, drop me a DM or email, my diary is open and I am working over the school holidays (except for two weeks!).

You know you need fresh, updated, engaging brand photos that reflect who you are but you may not know what kind of session is right for you. The overwhelm triggered by all the options from different photographers may stop you booking at all!

I don’t want that for you, your business deserves to reap the benefits of bespoke brand photography.

So here’s my options, not a ā€˜what you get’ list but a ā€˜where you’re at now’ match to my session types.

I hope this helps you see where you are and which session would suit you. If not, get in touch for a chat!

Summer dates are available, I know it’s tricky with kids off for 7 weeks this year (!) but marketing shouldn’t stop because the schools do and your business certainly shouldn’t pause so let’s help you get organised to hit the ground prepared in September!

Who better to say what it's like to work with me than the people who have?!

All of these kind words are available either here on my profile or on Google but I like to make it easy for folks so here are some reviews collated in one easy place :-)

If you're putting off brand photography for whatever reason, it only takes one friendly chat to ease those fears and inject a bit of 'let's do this' attitude. You don't need to feel ready, that's what the discovery and planning process is for.

I'm working over the summer holidays, other than going semi off grid for two weeks in the Outer Hebrides šŸ˜, so no need to put off until September what you can start doing today!

Just drop me a DM or email [email protected] to arrange a chat.

Are you brand photos helping you, or quietly holding you back?

There will always be signs that it’s time to update your brand imagery, or invest for the first time.

Trust is built in several stages and it starts with first impressions and perceptions formed by your visual assets. If you DIY your photos and social content for too long because you believe only pov or ā€˜honest’, in the moment content matters, those visuals may well form low quality perceptions of your business. We all know social content needs to be a mix of behind the scenes, education, sales and relatability focused posts but what about the quality of images for your website, advertising, profile photos, editorials/PR or collab opportunities like speaking, podcasts etc? Those images need to reflect you professionally, give a great first impression and build trust. That’s where pro photos will help you the most.

So if you nod your head to any of these, it’s time to invest in your business and book a brand shoot!

šŸ’”Your business has changed or grown, but your photos haven’t.
šŸ’”You’re launching new products, or services.
šŸ’”You make excuses for your website & avoid sending people to it.
šŸ’”You avoid marketing because finding images is too hard.
šŸ’”You’re passing up opportunities because you don’t have good images - guest podcasts or your own, editorials, speaking gigs.
šŸ’”You know your work is good, but your images don’t portray that,
šŸ’”It’s been more than a year since your last photo shoot.

None of this means you’re behind, or doing this whole running a business thing ā€˜wrong’, it just means your images need to catch up with where you are now and help you progress.

Don’t let fear put you off, my process of getting to know your business, listening to your struggles and goals, and planning your new images will help you feel ready and prepared come shoot day.

If this sounds familiar, I’d love to have a chat with you. No pressure, just a friendly chat.

My work wish list ā¤ļø Working for yourself brings much freedom, amongst that is the ability to steer my own work in a direction that is satisfying, enjoyable and really lights me up. I love working with the service based businesses that I have, business women that have inspired me as well as trusting me to enter their world and capture brand photographs that reflect their personalities and attract the people they want to work with.

But I have my wish list of businesses I’d really love to work with! I’d really love to capture the process and story of creating something by hand. I’m looking at you potters, bakers, jewellers, crafters and artists! ā¤ļø Let me capture your craft, your story, your process, your stunning finished products in photographs that aren’t just beautiful but will work hard to attract customers and build your audience.

I’d also really love to work with independent shops that carefully curate independent makers products. Your shop deserves to stand out and be seen among the noise chain stores with their big budgets for advertising make.

Living close to Swaledale and Wensleydale means I know there are small businesses and solo founders out there who need engaging, impactful photographs to help them stand out. So if you’re a maker sharing workspace with another maker, it’s possible you could share a shoot and share the cost. My method of working makes the whole process as easy as possible for all clients, ensuring you look forward to shoot day feeling preparing rather than daunted.

Drop me an email or dm to have a friendly chat about the process, outcomes and options.

After a busy May, June was tough. I value honesty professionally and personally so I’m not gonna lie, this quietness is not my vision for my business.

On the plus side I had time to create a holiday lets photography page on my website and spruce up the headshots page. That holiday lets page on the to-do list for quite a long while! I’d love to capture more cottages in the dales and wild escapes like shepherds huts and off grid stays so fingers crossed šŸ™šŸ» I love nothing more than being somewhere remote and peaceful to watch wildlife or read a book so I’d love to bring that into my work too, what a dream!

June is over now and July has started with a great networking meeting today, I love meeting new people and hearing about their business šŸ˜€

Was June good for you, or a struggle too?

Your holiday cottage is stunning. But is your photography doing it justice? Is it bringing in bookings?

When someone's scrolling through listings, deciding where to spend their holiday, they're not reading the description first. They're judging each listing by it's photos. They're stopped by a photo that's grabs their scroll induced foggy minded attention.

If your images don't make them pause, they've already moved on.

Professional photography doesn't just make your property look enticing, it works for you around the clock. It fills your inbox while you're out feeding the chickens. It convinces guests to book directly with you, without an agency taking a cut. And it filters in exactly the kind of guests you want — the ones who appreciate what you've created.

The right image shows the morning light through the kitchen window, the way the fire glows on a winter afternoon, the view that made you fall in love with the place in the first place.

That's what sells a stay. Not a list of amenities. Not a floor plan. A feeling.

If you're managing your own bookings and doing your own marketing, your photography is your most powerful sales tool.

If your holiday cottage isn't booking as much as you'd like or your photos are DIY efforts, get in touch for a chat. Photo sessions start at £250 for 2 hours including gentle, appropriate styling and all edited photos.

A little bit of the Mediterranean in North Yorkshire!

I recently spent some time capturing the inviting atmosphere and ambience of La Cocina restaurant in Richmond. This semi dark, rustic but elegant aesthetic is really what I love capturing. The natural light that fades away to reveal softly lit corners, inviting a sense of calm and relaxation to be enjoyed with friends or family. It’s somewhere that oozes warmth, intimacy and promotes conversation whilst offering delicious food and attentive service.

If you have a cafe, restaurant, holiday home or secret escape that needs soulful, inviting photographs that show the atmosphere and make your audience book a table or stay, I’d love to chat with you! Just DM me or email [email protected] to arrange a chat.
