The things one finds in an Archive !! 55 years ago Mirella Ricciardi celebrated the publication of her seminal book Vanishing Africa and it was featured in LIFE Magazine. Coming across this installation at PHOTO LONDON of all the LIFE Covers by Alfredo Jaar, artist, architect, and filmmaker was fantastic, a full circle moment , titled ‘Searching for Africa in Life”, it was was so extraordinary. We found our copy!! African Elegance in LIFE . What a joy. How we are all connected is so amazing. I was inspired to share this collage in appreciation of my Photo London visit on behalf of Mirella my mother. Thank you to Maria and & Malek Sukkar for their warm invitation to celebrate the Teams endeavours, creating a wonderful space for Art and Photography. The arts are essential to all community. It’s important to celebrate and not forget established artists like Mirella that has inspired so many. Talking of emerging artists, so wonderful to also meet Barbara Ayozie Fu Safira . Thank you for a lovely evening Barbara. Congratulations on your beautiful work, so glad for our blessed encounter at . 🙏

This authentic lost and found photographic archive full of untold visual stories resonates today more than ever. Here is why it matters. The archive provides primary evidence. It act as a collective memory, for the communities and families Mirella photographed. It is helping us trace roots and preserve traditions that might otherwise be forgotten. This story is about photography, and a woman with a huge vision leaving a legacy eventually for posterity. Thank you Mama for what you are leaving us. We celebrated and spoke up on your behalf to protect your vision as one of the greats and your voice. No one will take that away from you. Thank you Gus for your support. 🙏 .

So proud of my grandson Augustus aka Gus Dempsey this time last Friday he opened the Vienna screening. Thank you for such a heartfelt speech. Here is a short excerpt - ’Hello everyone, my name is Gus Dempsey. Mirella Ricciardi is my grandmother. In 2006, my mother Amina discovered a forgotten archive. What she found set her on a journey that has defined her mother, Mirella Ricciardi’s oeuvre, twenty years on, learning, preserving and protecting an extraordinary body of work, and ensuring that it will endure for future generations. Artistic Life: From Observer to Orchestrator

Exploring, experimenting and taking inspiration from nature and playing with a variety of styles and materials, has inspiring me to continue to create a new style of flora and botanical inspired mixed media art works moving into 2026.

My documentary photography is authentic and decisive that captured reality with minimal staging in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, into the 2000.

My recent still life photography in the latter part of my career has allowed me to control my composition, lighting, and subject matter. It is a constructed reality where I have been able to explore abstract ideas and beauty.

Exploring both genres , the documentary work back then and recently my newer works, stems from my continuous desire for expression, with the choice of documentary or still life offering me a different means to communicate ideas about life, time, and my personal human experience as I enter my 95th year. Remaining creative is key.

Peace, love and happiness going forward dear friends and family and into 2026. To my grandson for all the care you give and thank you to my immediate family and Co for all you do. Thank you friends and fans for supporting and appreciating my work since it’s rediscovery in 2006 and launch into the art market in 2008. You know who you are. Your actions have validated my efforts, provided encouragement, and has helped to preserve this important historical photographic document and eventual legacy I would like to leave behind. Your investment in the fine art edition photographs has made it all possible and worth while. Also importantly the 20 years of hard work and commitment my archivist daughter has done conserving and protecting the archive for posterity. Long may it last.
