Not a consciously created photo which fits in with theme of my page, but a nonetheless intriguing one which shows how life, or death, can sometimes imitate art. I shot this at Borley Church in Essex in 1972. Borley is the site of the infamous Rectory, allegedly the most haunted house in England. The church is also said to have its phantoms.
There was nothing in the viewfinder when I pressed the shutter, but this figure/ shape appeared on the print. Some say it is a drying mark on the neg, but the film I used was a 12 frame sealed cassette. It is difficult to get drying marks on cassettes. All the other fames were ok. Why, if it is a drying mark, would it take the shape of apparitions which have been reported at Borley over the years? M,R,James was correct when asked about the paranormal. “ These things are so, but we do not know the rules”.
