As the sun dipped below the Aegean horizon on November 15, marking the close of the latest edition of the .workshop in Greece, a quiet wave of emotion washed over the group.
This wasn’t just a workshop - it was a soul - stirring journey that blended the raw passion of (wedding) photography with the timeless allure of the sea. For eight days, from November 8 to 15, participants sailed on catamarans through the Saronic Gulf waters, capturing genuine moments under our guidance. What started as a gathering of strangers over 6 years ago evolved into a family of creatives, sharing laughter over shared lenses and late-night critiques that sparked breakthroughs. One participant, reflecting on Instagram, called it “already missing .workshop,” a sentiment that echoed the bittersweet farewell as the group dispersed, forever changed by the bonds forged amid the waves.
Hydra Island, the workshop’s enchanting backdrop, feels like a dream whispered from another era. This car-free paradise, where donkeys still trot along cobbled paths carrying loads of life, invites you to slow down and truly see. Imagine arriving at dawn, as one storyteller did on 35mm film, climbing the hill to the monastery where the first light paints the barren rock in golden hues - a place Durrell once described as “nude as a skull and waterless,” yet glowing with austere splendor.
Or the memory from 1978, when a young graduate lingered all summer, unwilling to leave the island’s authentic embrace, far from the tourist crowds. Hydra’s magic lies in its quiet transformations: once a pulsating party haven in the 1960s, it’s now a serene art enclave where cutting-edge galleries mingle with chill vibes, inspiring photographers to capture rain-slicked harbors free of crowds or sunsets that heal the weary soul.
