What happens to our sense of home, belonging and identity when conflict and displacement transform the places we know?

Join us on the 14 September at Riverside Studios for an evening with documentary photographers David Hadland and Sarah Hickson.

David will share his ongoing project Kozak, which documents Ukrainian soldiers living on the frontline.
Sarah will present work exploring migration, displacement, community and belonging, from Calais and Greece to Serbia and the UK.

What happens when photography leaves the gallery and enters everyday life?

Festival La Gacilly Baden Photo Festival Photo La Gacilly transforms the city of Baden, Austria into an open-air gallery spanning 7km, one of Europe's largest outdoor photography festivals. This year's edition, So British!, brought together the work of Martin Parr, Don McCullin, Mary Turner and others in public spaces where anyone could encounter them, no ticket required.

Our founder Cinzia D'Ambrosi Cinzia D'Ambrosi attended as an invited guest and spoke with festival co-founder Lois Lammerhuber about photography's power to shape public space and provoke dialogue.

Every exhibition tells two stories: the one on the walls, and the one behind them.

Here are a few more photographs created by the young photographers during Lens on a Century Photojournalism project run by the Photojournalism Hub in collaboration with the Sulgrave Club Nick Sulgrave capturing moments from the journey that led to the exhibition.

From workshops and interviews to archive research, portraits and a visit to Reuters headquarters, these images reflect the curiosity, collaboration and learning that shaped the project long before the exhibition opened.

A special focus was given to Sara Davies'research Sara Davies which revealed her natural investigative instincts. Through careful exploration of archives, historical documents and local records, her work uncovered new insights into the origins of the Sulgrave Club, adding an important historical dimension to the exhibition.

Documentary photography is as much about the process as it is about the final image.
