One of my favourite shots I ever took — The Darkness at full throttle 🎸

This was one of those rare moments where everything just lined up. The lighting, the pose, the energy… you don’t get many like that.

The painful bit?

I later found out The Sun had actually called wanting to use this image… and I missed it.

Back then things weren’t quite as instant as they are now — no smartphones, no constant notifications. By the time I realised, the opportunity had gone.

I started out photographing bands around the NWOBHM era, built contacts through a fanzine, and stayed with imaging as the industry moved from film to digital.

At one point I even interviewed with Sounds magazine — but the reality of the job meant being London-based and turning work around overnight, which just wasn’t practical for me at the time.

So I took a different path.

I went back to study, completed a full-time course in Electronic Imaging, worked in the emerging world of digital media, and later graduated with a First Class degree in Digital Imaging.

One nice moment — Dan Hawkins liked this shot so much I had it blown up into a poster for him. I was told he loved it and planned to put it up in his studio (though I’ll never know if he did!).

Didn’t follow the path I expected.

Didn’t get the break.

But I got the shot.

I don’t care whether you’re Christian or not. STRYPER are the most phenomenal band from the US. Blindingly strong songs with depth and glorious harmonies backed up by great guitar licks and a hard rock feel. If you don’t like the lyrics ignore them because there is enough content in the tracks that is so much more powerful.
Play it loud. It will blow your mind and knocks other hm/rock bands into a cocked hat.

Your grandmother wore really 'mini' mini skirts, tight hot pants, long go-go boots, bell bottoms and no bra. She listened to Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Janis Joplin and the Rolling Stones. He drove a mini car, rode fast on motorcycles and scooters. She smoked thin ci******es and fat joints She drank G&Ts and Whiskey Shots, walked in at 4:00am - and still went to work the next day..... So however you think you are, you'll never be as cool as your grandma.
