Last week, I had the pleasure of representing on the education panel on
My co-panelists
and are all accomplished and passionate educators. Breaking down the party pledges, the likely effects if implemented, the party records on the relevant issues (and the fallout), the current state of the system and its trajectory with them was illuminating, affirming, triggering and amusing.

The education system forms part of the base of social injustice and so it's important to know before you vote, which party (if any) has shown any (meaningful) interest in trying to start a society wide journey towards systemic overhaul and cultural shifts towards justice.

Children and young people sit at the intersections of all our most vulnerable groups while being one in and of themselves. So if we have a society and systems that are dedicated to protecting and supporting our most vulnerable, everybody will be better off.

Thank you to and for getting us and the other panels together for what should be a necessary review of not just manifestos, but policies, policy positions, and legislation. @ London, United Kingdom

This year marks ten years since I started my journey as a photographer. It's been a rewarding experience and I'm grateful for my growth, and grateful to everyone who has contributed to it from next to me, behind the lens and in front of my lens.

Today for the first time ever, I held physical prints of my work and it was surreal. I felt an elation and sense of completion I haven't had in a long time.

A selection from has been chosen by the to be part of the at from Wednesday 6th March 2019 until Sunday 10th March 2019. It's free to attend and I'm one of 19 artists whose work examining the Black British experience is going to be on display.

Come see and support Black British art... Also, come and support your friend Ekow. 😁

Day 366
Habari gani?
I didn't want to leave this incomplete. So this is a bonus post to complete the Kwanzaa celebrations and commemorate Haitian Independence.
Many of us conflate faith with religion, and while they aren't the same, the pursuit of righteousness in any spiritual context should encompass achieving justice, peace, wholeness and the complete humanity of our and all peoples.
To do this requires us to first believe in the nobility, honour and righteousness of our struggle as well as the inevitability of our victory. Then we must through our words and deeds support, empower and guide the parents, teachers and leaders of our community as they steer us toward the aforementioned victory.
As we celebrate Haitian Independence, let us be encouraged, that faith when active, is rewarded. This is Imani.
A joyous Kwanzaa to us all and bòn fèt lendepandans!

Day 365
Habari gani?
To day is the last day of the 365... The last few weeks has had me looking forward to today. I expected to feel relief, but I'm now kinda sad that it's over. I'm glad that I've completed it, but sad that it has to end.
Yes it has to end!
But my greatest hope for this wasn't to show my camera skills, master Instagram or Facebook algorithms (I didn't), gain more followers, get more work or attain some equally pleasant personal gain. It was to leave us feeling more whole, more connected, more visible, more normal, more amazing, more beautiful in our own eyes, more acceptable to each other, more all-encompassing, more loving, more empathetic, more encouraging, more comfortable in all that our blackness does and can entail.
I've been walking and working in Kuumba this year without even realising it. This principle is not just for creatives in the common/traditional sense, it's for all of us, to harness our creativity in whatever shape or form that it comes and use it to leave our community, environment, lives, and loves more beautiful that when we inherited them. We must be of benefit to our Blackness, the African diaspora and the world at large.

Day 364
Habari gani?
Finding our purpose in life seems to be the constant individual quest, the great human pursuit and the oft unanswered question. Today's principle, Nia, is about our collective purpose.
With each day we must individually make it our purpose to work towards the collective goal of developing our local and global diasporic communities, in order to restore ourselves to our TRADITIONAL greatness.
The traditional part is important, because we often resort to defining our ideas of success, progress greatness etc. through the prism of colonial ideals. Our purpose is to redefine what greatness is for ourselves, but for the world also. To show that there are other ways to live life. A better fulfillment to achieve. A different measure of happiness for us to pursue.
We need not seek our purpose.
Tuna lengo.

Day 363
Habari gani?
I have mixed feelings about the ideas we have about collective economics and what it can mean for our future, mostly because they often tend to feed into propping up the current system that is predicated on inequality. This is something we need to have at the forefront of our minds as we attempt to build with the ideology of business for profit.
That being said, in this iteration of our lives, where money is a necessary evil at the individual and communal level, whether locally or globally, building our own businesses, stores and shops should be to our communal benefit. Ujamaa. This means as, business owners, employees and users, we should be supporting eachother. Profit isn't just finance, it's community cohesion, it's environmental and social responsibility.

Day 362
Habari gani?
"No man is an island." John Donne's 17th Century idiom for our interdependence as humans, is a wisdom that predates the poet. Only by continually working together, do we build and maintain our community. While this is just a fact, it should also be a meditation for all of us as we envision our future as groups within (and as members of) the African diaspora.
In addition to this, our attitudes and solutions to any individual's hardships should be communal. Any problem of our brothers and sisters, should be our own.
This is the essence of the principle called Ujima. We build together, mend together, overcome together, heal together, strive together, achieve together, rise together, grow together.
Daima pamoja.
