15 years ago I used to describe myself as a 'natural light photographer '... because I was scared of studio lighting.
Yes, studio lighting equipment terrified me. And at first I avoided it, shooting only outdoors or by windows, pushing my camera settings to the max.
But it was limiting. Shoots had to be short, or the light would dramatically change throughout my images. The weather had to be good, or there would be too little light available, often even with a wide aperture and high iso.
So, with a long loaded sigh, I bought my first pair of strobes. And, let me tell you, it was *not* love at first sight. 😑
All the buttons on the heads and triggers confused me. The results frustrated me.
I didn't control the light, not one bit - the light controlled me, and did a great job at it.
However, on those rare occasions when I did manage to get results somewhat close to what I was looking for (often by mistake), I was amazed.
And in those sporadic windows of beautiful light, my love for Studio Lighting started to flourish.
Fast forward 15 years later. Studio Lighting is the reason I work with top brands like , why I was able to score big campaigns, and why I am a published author (of lighting guide Lighting People).
It is true what they say:
THE FEARS YOU DON'T FACE BECOME YOUR LIMITS.
So think about it. What's one thing that you have always shied away from? Could December be the month to try it out, to push outside your comfort zone? Could this be the month you GROW an even bigger version of yourself?
