London’s skyline from Primrose Hill. Sometimes it is just being in the right place at the right time. This sunrise was magical and worth a 2am start. There aren’t many places in London which have a view of all the buildings and spires from east to west. OK, it’s missing Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, but has most other buildings.

The Eiffel Tower, designed and built by Gustave Eiffel’s company between 1887 and 1889, it was constructed for the opening of the World Fair of 1889. It is now a symbol of France, Paris and now the 2024 Olympics.

Copenhagen, Denmark

I chose to photograph Copenhagen in 2018 to expand my portfolio which I originally photographed in 2010. The additional eight years of photography experience had honed my skills and eye. I was struck by this view of the Christiansborg Palace which is home to the Danish Parliament and is also used by the Danish monarch. The surrounding residential buildings help frame the focus of the image, the Tower. Photographed in November, the winter weather was perfect, crisp but with low cloud providing a natural light and haze to the sky.

Chicago, United States

Cloud Gate, nicknamed “The Bean”, is a sculpture situated in Millennium Park. It was designed by Sir Anish Kapoor in 2006.

An incredible sculpture that attracts many tourists who look at themselves reflected in it. Photographed very early one day to avoid the crowds in 2017.

Shanghai, China

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower stands on the Pudong in central Shanghai. It was designed by the Shanghai Modern Architectural Design Co. Ltd. and opened in 1994. It is an iconic building standing at 468m and the tallest structure in China until 2007.

Photographed from the other side of the Huangpu River in 2018. An incredible structure that seems dwarfed by the more recent skyscrapers, but which is still one and a half times the size of the tallest building in London, the Shard.

Bristol, UK

The Clifton Suspension Bridge was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1864. It spans the River Avon and connects Clifton in Bristol with Leigh Woods in North Somerset. It is an iconic landmark of Bristol and known worldwide.

When asked to photograph Bristol for a client in 2014 this landmark was at the top of my list, due to its distinctive structure associated with the city. When I approached this viewpoint before sunset, I had just missed someone base-jumping from the bridge. Not recommended. After an hour or so, I captured this night image, which worked better with the lighting on the bridge.
