The past 5 days we toured Western Sichuan, a Chinese region almost the size of Italy.

This region encompasses many areas devoted to the Tibetan Buddhism, many of which are home to the most important Monasteries outside the Tibet Autonomous Region.

We slept on average at 3800m above the sea level. We drove an electric car for almost 1400km. We hiked all the way to 4700m in Yading, a biosphere reserve listed as UNESCO MAB.

Between the snow-capped peaks, high-altitude grasslands, and deep canyons Tibetan Buddhism is strong and breathing. Everything is balanced and there seems to be a “solution” or a way to anything, naturally.

Shangri-la sits at 3500mt on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau, where Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet all come together.

It is the centre of the Tibetan culture in Yunnan province, and in general in China. The monastery that rises on top of the city is often referred as the “Little Potala Palace”, denoting its importance amongst the believers.

Shangri-la does not exist only to those who pray. It is also home to vast grasslands where thousands of animals swarm the rich soil.

Next Western Sichuan, where nature and Tibetan culture really thrive 🏞️ Climbing up all the way to 4500mt.

Yunnan in general represents the perfect combination between nature and consciously lit historical beauty.

On one side you find yourself immerse in the waters of the Blue Moon Valley at the bottom of the Yulong Glacier and the 3800mt deep walls of the Tiger Leaping Gorge.

On the other side you are surrounded by 900 years old alleys, pointy roofs and extravagant lights. is a well deserved UNESCO World Heritage Site, one not to be overlooked.
