Ed Braidwood aka "HIYAFOTO" is a published and exhibited freelance photographer with many years of experience in film and digital formats. Ed has previously exhibited his work at galleries in the UK, Spain and Australia and also works with the periodical Madrid-based Spanish magazine "Ventanas Abiertas", which translates to "Open Windows", providing images and short articles for each edition. Ed is also associated with the Photo Agency Art Full Frame, that provides exhibition and sales services to photographers. Ed's photography journey started as a teenager with a Kodak Instamatic 110 film camera and then taking Photography as an option at school, where he gained his first experience of film processing and printing images captured with a Zenit EM 35mm SLR camera. In 2015 Ed started to focus on street photography and portraiture, working with models in his favourite London locations such as Shoreditch around Brick Lane and Moorgate around the Barbican Estate. In recent years Ed has broadened his experience to include, medium format and small format film as well as digital, each with their own unique qualities, using equipment from Hasselblad, Fujifilm, Leica, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax and Rollei. "Research data shows that in England, about 18% of adults (aged 16–65) have “low literacy proficiency” (i.e. “Level 1 or below”), meaning they may struggle with more complex or unfamiliar texts. This is slightly up from 16.4% in earlier years.

That corresponds to around 6.6 million adults in England alone having very limited literacy skills.

A big concern: while average literacy remained stable, the share of adults at the bottom (lowest proficiency) has increased.

On top of that, participation in adult literacy-learning programmes has dropped significantly over the past decade. For instance, in adult-literacy provision in England the number of learners fell from ≈360,000 in 2018/19 to about 223,000 in 2022/23 — a drop of some 38%."
