This week we were given the brief “Series: repetition of place, objects or people”.

Here is my series - Hands

This series attempts to examine the relationship between a person’s hands and their life story. The series is motivated by the question of whether information about a person can be revealed through the study of their hands. Although hands are a lesser photographed body part compared to the face, by paying more attention to an individual’s hands, there may be indications of age, occupation and possibly even trauma. It is hard to say what many may or may not have experienced, but I hope to get a deeper understanding of this through the images I take and through engaging with a wide group of people.
Each individual that I photographed was asked the same set of questions: name, age, occupation and ethnic origin or nationality. The exact answers to these questions are displayed in the text below each set of images. I refrained from providing instructions on how their hands should be positioned, other than them facing their palms up or palms down. This was an intentional decision as I wanted to see how each individual chose to present their hands, and if doing so themselves, would uncover something about their personality.

Little stress that bleed into small Piazzas, each decorated with many souvenir shops selling the traditional good luck charm of Naples: Cornicello.
The horn is the symbol for excellence of Neapolitan superstition. It is often replaced by red chillies on doors or balconies, with which their spicy seeds have the symbolic function of keeping evil tongues at bay.

After a few months of hard work and losing sleep, my book is finally FINISHED and has been sent off for production!! Even though it has been difficult, I have enjoyed every moment of it. Now it’s back to portfolio work and a whole load of sketchbooks 😂🍕
