Thanks to everyone who came down to listen to me speak at ✌️ I never really set out to be a spokesperson for what we do. We opened SHED almost 15 years ago after I graduated from , and honestly it’s been one long learning curve ever since. I was a baby when we opened and i didn’t know anything about employing staff, paying HMRC, paying landlords — I got eaten alive and had a panic attack at the age of 25yrs. I don’t talk about it and people don’t know, they only see a confident business and think “wow your doing really well”. The truth is, I still don’t feel fully ready half the time, and public speaking definitely doesn’t come naturally to me!
People might look at SHED and think “you guys are smashing it” — but truthfully, we work incredibly hard just to keep the wheels turning. We fight monthly to keep prices fair, quality high, and our standards consistent without losing what made us start this in the first place.
At times it can feel like we don’t get recognised in the same way as some of the newer brands. We’re not the “new cool Instagram coffee brand” — we started this before Instagram was even really a thing. We’re not native to that world and we didn’t setup our shops to be instgram ready. But still going after 15 years means more to us than having 15k followers, and for that we thank our genuine community.
What we do care about is serving quality products consistently, at a fair price, without pretension. We serve our local communities — everyone from taxi drivers and builders to lawyers and creatives — and we genuinely value every single one of you! we mean that and we never take you for granted, everything we do is with you in mind.
In our books, in the shops that are still around after 10-15 years of graft, blood, sweat and tears that deserve the medals, not the new instgram shops who capture a segment of the instagram and then close down after 3 years and to that, putting some respect on the names of:
Big thanks to , and for having me on the panel 🖤
