Upcoming event for teachers, artist educators and arts workers. THRESHOLDS: CULTIVATING CURIOSITY IN THE CLASSROOM | 4:30-6pm, Tuesday 2 July, 2026
What happens when entering the art classroom becomes an opportunity to cultivate joy and curiosity?
In this gathering, artist Jasmin Bhanji and AMSI’s Head of Art Joeanna Omotesho will introduce Thresholds: a practice where the entrance to the art classroom is subtly transformed using material and sensory interventions. These have included disco lights and music, projections of waves, and glitter curtains.
We’ll explore how these interventions have invited new ways of entering and experiencing the classroom, sparking different kinds of conversations with students. This ‘consultation by action’ has informed curriculum development, shaped around young people’s responses.
Through hands-on creative activity, conversation, and reflection, we’ll explore ways to support meaningful engagement in art. You’ll leave with practical ideas and fresh perspectives to take into your own context.
This gathering is for teachers from primary, secondary, EYFS and SEND settings, as well as artist educators and arts workers.
Thresholds has emerged during Liberating the Curriculum (LTC), a two-year programme with Arts and Media School Islington (AMSI) that creates time and space to develop a flexible, diverse curriculum. By making space for slowing down and being present, we hope to support young people to bring more of themselves to their art education.
LTC is part of a long-term collaboration between Cubitt Artists and AMSI and is generously supported by Freelands Foundation as part of their Inclusive Practice Fund.
