Newsflash! Front cover for The Observer New Review ❤️
When I was younger, being a photographer seemed like a nebulous sort of career for characters in movies and comic books. I never thought I could do it as a job.
But I kept taking photos of everyone, everywhere, everything at once and eventually – via a pedestrian crossing, a lorry, me between the two and a day that changed everything – I became a professional photographer.
I’ve already had so many pinch-me moments and incredible situations in my career.
Yet sometimes, when the extraordinary becomes your almost-mundane, you can forget that what you’re doing now was your wildest dream 10 years ago.
Having a national, front-page cover for The Observer is exactly the kind of stuff that made me dream when I was a teen thinking of photographers as near fictional characters.
And the fact that I first shot it for Dazed , the magazine that made me dream of London as this uber cool fashion city and want to move there (where I’ve now been a contributor for several years), makes it even better.
Last but not least, that it was photos from the loveliest day photographing the loveliest people at Maiden Voyage Festival is the cherry on top 🍒
So this is my ever-long-winded and maybe somewhat self-congratulatory-and-indulgent-but-who-cares, way of saying that dreams do come true. Just make sure to pause, take silly photos and appreciate it when they do 🥂
