"protect your health, keep the beach clean".

Like many people across the world, I feel helpless as to what is happening in the Amazon Rainforest and the crisis of climate change. We are read the headlines saying that we need to act now but without a real understanding of what we can do to make a real difference. We all have a carbon footprint, it just finding our own ways to minimise that.

Whilst in holiday in Portugal, I grabbed my camera and took this photo. Alongside this, I also filled a paper bag of rubbish that I found on my walk and put it in the bin to be recycled. Although this is just a small thing I did, I knew that it could make a tiny difference.

If you would like to find out how you can help to make a difference, take a look at the WWF website (https://www.wwf.org.uk) where you can make a donation to help battle climate change and the fires in the Amazon Rainforrest. Today, I donated £10 to the cause which can pay for 40 seeds of trees to be planted!

As my friends at say “One simple change, multiplied by millions, will change the world!”

Let me know in the comments below what you have done today to help battle climate change! ⬇️

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any old film cameras that they don’t want anymore? I want to try experiment more with film and different types of cameras in all formats 😊

“Fly tipping is a challenge our farm faces on a regular basis. This has both an emotional and physical costs. Working between ourselves and the authorities to try and prevent this will cost in time and money. The prevention will distract from the openness of the countryside by having to put in place physical barriers. Those that dump don’t seem to care about the knock on effect it has on us”.

“This is our own little world that is starting to be effected by global warming. The seasons can be so unpredicatable which has a knock on effect on the crops and livestock. We want to protect our own little world but also the planet, not just for our children but for the future generations”.

“Lambing time is the most important time of the year for us, for six weeks one of us has to be on the farm 24 hours a day. Unlike larger farms that can employ many members of staff, have CCTV and automatic milk feeders for the orphan lambs, we have nothing other than ourselves. With 200 pregnant ewes expecting 350 lambs, it is a tiring and sometimes stressful period as a poor lambing can be the difference between profit and loss for the whole year. We have to be on hand to make sure every delivery is a success by intervening when it is required, regardless of the time of day or whether it is freezing cold or pouring with rain, there are no sick days for us or going home early on a Friday. However this is also the most magical time of the year emerging from winter into spring to be surrounded by all of this new life and sharing all of the joys, and struggles as a family”.

“Hopefully in your lifetime you will only need the help of the police, the medical profession and a ‘holyman’ a handful of times. A farmer is needed three times a day. If we lose our rural land, we will have nowhere to farm our food”.

“My ‘Girls’ are very important to me. I appreciate that they lay an egg almost every day but they like it just so. Imagine pleasing a lot of hormonal females all the time! I am encouraging them onto new pasture. They know and trust me so I use my voice and make sure they have enough small shelters for overhead cover to give them confidence. The fresh grass helps to produce lovely coloured yolks and gives them the environment to do what they would naturally”.

Over the next few days I will be posting some of my favourite images
from my series ‘Home Grown’ accompanied by the messages that the farmers wish to tell about the agricultural industry. Home Grown is a series which encourages local farmers to express their struggles and triumphs within the agricultural industry and raise awareness of how our every day choices can have a big impact on the industry. I want Home Grown to start conversations on what you think affects the industry and how can we help to make this an industry that can thrive for many years to come... let me know what you think in the comments below!⬇️

The show has now finished! I had an incredible opportunity to exhibit my series ‘Home Grown’ at the Old Truman Brewery as part of the Free Range which is the largest degree show in England. The exhibition allowed me to showcase my work, including my hand made book ‘Home Grown’ and meet other up and coming photographers from around the country.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the people that I spoke to, I loved being able to discuss my work with other like minded people and discover new ways in which I can continue to expand this project.

Also a special thank you to all of the farmers who have helped me explain their stories, without them this project would not have been possible!
