It evolved from a modest mail order company in the mid-1980s to its present, highly-respected position in the photographic industry with over 47,000 customers world-wide, that have included the legendary film-director, Stanley Kubrick, David Suchet, best-known in his role as Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie’s famous sleuth, Lord Snowdon, world-famous National Geographic photographer Jim Brandenburg, Rod Stewart, and the late 1960s’ icon Terence Donovan.

Legendary lighting master and portrait photographer Joe McNally returns to London this December for another edition of the London Lighting Workshop, staged at the wonderfully designed Belt Craft Studios.

This year, the emphasis is on simplicity and mobility as participants create sophisticated portraiture using both natural light and flash, indoors and outside.

Participants will have access to professional talent and a wide range of Profoto lighting equipment, alongside demonstrations, ongoing Q&A and plenty of opportunities to update their portfolio and develop an elevated style of environmental portraiture.
Pizza, drinks and a picture review round off day one, setting the groundwork for a successful second day.

With limited spots to ensure an excellent model-to-photographer ratio, spaces are going fast for one of the most fun, engaging and unique workshops around.

In 1962, the first Photomic attachment for the Nikon came onto the market and replaced the detachable clip-on selenium cell light meters.

The Photomic is a combination of a prism viewfinder and light meter with a needle indicator and a film speed range of 10 to 1600 ASA This couples to the meter coupling prong on Nikkor lenses.

The attachment has a round CdS sensor, and the camera can be held at eye level during exposure adjustment. The needle indicator is also visible in a small window on top of the Photomic attachment and enables a check of the exposure reading, which is important when using a tripod.

Other features include manual exposure control at the full aperture of the lens being used, colour film correction markings, a screw-in diffuser, a telephoto simulator that reduces the measuring angle from 75° to 18° when lenses longer than 85mm are used, and a micro-switch to turn the power to the meter on and off.
