🇲🇾 Authentic Malaysian-Chinese food in Romford! 🇲🇾
If you're out in Romford Town today, why not warm yourself up with a hearty noodle box from Yum Yum. Situated in the market square, Yum Yum is a key presence here in Romford. You can't miss his signature black and yellow flag, which can be spotted from a mile away!
Uncle serves up a range of authentic Malaysian goodness! A small box of noodle or rice with meat goes for £5 (£6 for a regular). For those who don't fancy spicy food, there's Salt and Pepper Chicken, Chicken in Black Bean sauce and of course, Sweet and Sour Chicken. If you'd like to kick it up a notch, why not try his Malaysian Chicken Curry or my personal favourite, Kung Po Sweet Chilli Chicken🐥
He also has some snacks to choose from like Steamed Pork Bun for £2.50 and
5 x Vegetable Spring Rolls for £1 (How do you say no to that?)
We tried:
- Small Kung Po Chicken with Noodle
- Small Black Bean Chicken with Noodle
- Steamed Pork Bun
- Vegetable Spring Rolls
I've tried Yum Yum several times before and uncle never fails to cook perfect noodles! Key to a great noodle dish, is texture. It's springy, so more-ish and has the right level of seasoning. I chow-ed it down in seconds! What I also love about Yum Yum is that you get a good amount of chicken. And good sized chicken pieces too! The Black Bean sauce has a really subtle savoury, earthy flavour and it coated the chicken pieces well. The Kung Po is sweet and has a good level of spice to it. Perfect for a cold winter's day!
Next up, the Vegetable Spring Rolls. They were really good this time I tried them. Fried to a golden brown, crunchy and filled well.
This was my first time trying his Steamed Pork Buns. I was a little skeptical about ordering this. Because if you get an over-steamed bun, it is not pleasant to eat. If you've never tried a soft fluffy steamed bun, it may not be the most visually appealing dish and was rather delicate to handle. But the pork filling was on point! I just wished there was more of it! The mince was mixed with chinese cabbage and aromatics. It was seasoned well and has a lovely fragrance from the Xiao Shing Wine.
At £2.50, I can't decide if it was a good deal or not. However, it was approximately, the size of my palm so it was a good size. You could share it between two and have a noodle box each and you'll definitely be full!
