Tuesday’s little adventure around London 🚌🚶‍♂️

I took the bus to Elephant & Castle and, just before arriving, came across the scene of an accident. I then wandered through the side streets, making my way towards Tower Bridge.

Along the way I discovered another Wetherspoon pub with an interesting bit of history — The Pommeler’s Rest, which has connections with London’s old leather trade.

I continued through Potter’s Field Park, where the recently planted drought-tolerant plants seem to be coping surprisingly well with the current conditions. 🌿

I’m still not sure what the old City Hall is going to look like once the restoration is finished. 🤔

The angled steps up to London Bridge are definitely not my favourite! At 85, they’re becoming a bit of a challenge. 😅 There are, however, some lovely new seating areas alongside the bridge.

And finally, I spotted the safety boat keeping watch over the scaffolders working on Blackfriars Bridge. 🚤

Another interesting day exploring London and noticing the little things along the way!

On Monday, I took the Elizabeth Line to Custom House, the stop for ExCel London Exhibition Centre. It was interesting to see how much the area has changed over the years.

The old Spillers factory is still there, across the other side of Royal Victoria Dock, while the old Sunborn liner is now the Yacht Hotel.

The new City Hall certainly catches the eye with its very angular design — I’m not quite sure what message it’s meant to convey! 😄

From Royal Victoria, I hopped on the DLR to Limehouse for a quick look around, then continued on to Bank Station and caught the Tube home.

A lovely little trip around London, with plenty of reminders of how much the Docklands have changed. 🚇🏙️

On Sunday, I hopped on a bus to County Hall and then enjoyed a stroll along the South Bank, taking in the crowds and the sights. 😊

The Royal Horse Guards Hotel, over the river, was looking particularly splendid. I’m not sure whether the City of London School still occupies the building next to the former Unilever offices, though.

By then, I’d had enough for one day, so it was off to the Tube at Blackfriars, then over to Victoria and home. A lovely little London wander! 🚶‍♂️🚌🚇

On Saturday, I took a trip on the DLR to Canning Town Station, then crossed the footbridge and headed over to City Island.

My destination was Trinity Buoy Wharf, a fascinating place with a rich history of both maritime and artistic interest. It was great to see the SS Robin, the world’s oldest complete steamship, which has been brought back to Bow Creek, close to where she was built by the Thames Ironworks & Shipbuilding Company. The company’s former building still stands nearby next to East India Dock.

After exploring the area, I continued my walk towards East India DLR Station and caught the train back to Tower Hill. From there, I managed to get a great shot of the Tower of London to finish off a really enjoyable day exploring another interesting part of London. 📸🚶‍♂️🚆

A short walk on Friday, heading from the back of the Southbank Centre towards Waterloo. Along the way, I passed the former Royal Waterloo Hospital for Children and Women, a Grade II Listed building which is now used as a dormitory by the University of Notre Dame, USA.

It was lovely to see so many people taking advantage of the very low tide and exploring the little Thames beaches. 🌊

A brief glimpse of the Blackfriar Pub, and then it was time to hop on the Tube and head home. 🚇

Another enjoyable little London walk! 😊

On Friday, I hopped on the 390 bus and headed to Great Titchfield Street, near Oxford Circus.

It’s such an interesting street, with a real mix of architectural styles and some wonderfully colourful pubs. I particularly love the mosaic adverts on the T J Boulting building — they really catch the eye!

There are also plenty of rather boring office buildings, including one that houses Arup, the renowned engineers and architects. Seeing their name brought back memories for me, as I worked with Arup over 50 years ago on the construction of a prestigious building in Oxford.

Funny how a simple bus journey can bring back so many memories! 😊

Part 2 of my walk around Walthamstow Village! 😊

The Ancient House was a real surprise to find in a North London suburb, and St Mary's Church really caught my eye with its unusual stucco walls.

After that, I headed back to Walthamstow Central Station and finished the day with a very hot journey home on the Victoria Line... definitely feeling the lack of air-conditioning! 🥵🚇

On Wednesday I hopped on the Circle Line to Liverpool Street. After a quick wander around the station, I caught the Overground to Chingford. It’s a pleasant enough suburban town, but there wasn’t a great deal there to catch my eye, so I jumped back on the Overground and headed to Walthamstow Central instead.

My mission was to find Walthamstow Village, which I’d visited a few years ago. It took a little while to track it down, but I eventually found it and enjoyed a stroll along the village’s charming main street.

I’ll share the rest of the photos from my visit tomorrow!

On Sunday I had reason to visit Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and rarely without my camera I took a short walk along Fulham Road towards home.

On Saturday I needed to pop into Lidl in Stockwell, so I decided to take the opportunity to have a wander around the area. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how lovely many of the houses were. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but Stockwell has definitely gone up in my estimation!

From there I carried on along Brixton Road towards Kennington Park, then hopped on a bus home past the famous Oval Cricket Ground. It turned into a really enjoyable little afternoon of exploring.
