A recent delicious project was French Classics: Easy & Elevated Dishes to Cook at Home by . Our incredibly knowledgable, experienced & conveniently French food stylist , working alongside Matt, provided us with a masterclass in French cooking, along with deeply layered flavours & lots of butter.

Matt is a classically trained chef with a French cuisine obsession. He co-owns both & in London & has just a few (million!) people who watch his every move in his online recipe videos.

I think I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed by the idea of cooking French food but watching Matt, Valerie & her amazing assistants in the kitchen made it all seem (mostly!) achievable. The results were truly delicious.

Once the food was ready, our incredible prop stylist would thoughtfully round up a few items & then effortlessly shake out a linen, collate a few glasses, nudge a spoon into position, perhaps tile the floor (!) & then the whole image would come together so naturally, so beautifully. It’s very peaceful watching someone in their flow.

Some of this book was shot in beautiful Nice, where the markets - fish, veg, fruit - were, of course, incredibly seasonal, local & fresh. I also really loved the baked goods & coffee at .

Shout out to .pup who films & edits with Matt; a wonderful travel companion & her granny’s bestie happened to own the most legendary restaurant in Nice !

Hello friends - I’m happy to share some images from a recently published cook book that I was so fortunate to photograph- ’s The Red Sea. It features 100 family recipes and stories from Saudi Arabia.

Madeeha was a finalist on Masterchef & captured viewers’ hearts as she publicly shared her grief surrounding the passing of her father. Her debut cook book is dedicated to him (Aba Jan) & Madeeha shares many beautiful moments & recipes inspired by him.

I really loved talking with & learning from Madeeha as we worked together. The influence of the Silk Route (which of course makes me think of ’s book Silk Roads: A Flavour Odyssey with Recipes from Baku to Beijing) can be seen as you flick through the pages - Egypt, Lebanon, North Africa, Syria, Turkey, Yemen. As well as Indonesian flavours, via the Indonesian quarter of Jeddah.

And hearing of Madeeha’s Saudi Arabia (including the impact of the Gulf War, particularly on food supply chains) - Yanbu, Jeddah (where Madeeha grew up), Mecca & Corniche, as well as holidays on the Farasan Islands - really brought this region to life for me. The incredible complexity & diversity is so evident in the flavours of the recipes, so layered & bright, vibrant & moreish!

Sharing news about a stunning, recently published Sri Lankan cook book. Lankan Filling by was shot in sunny Sydney with a joyous, hardworking team, including on many days, O Tama’s delicious baby. So special to have a little person to squeeze in between shots!

O Tama’s writing & cooking are so knowledgeable, so well informed, so deeply researched & tested & retested, resulting in truly delicious food & ideas.
I learnt so much about a cuisine I wasn’t so familiar with, most significantly, how delicious a wok-fried egg is.
And how wonderful Vadouvan butter is.
And how tasty kiri hodi is.
AND how marvellous a grilled cheese on kade paan tastes, especially when made by Coco, O Tama’s (French) second in command.
I also loved that in the bathrooms of O Tama’s restaurant, Lankan Filling Station (RIP) that there were little, warmed pans of freshly roasted spice mix to cleanse the air.

This was my first project being paired with the amazing stylist Kirsten Jenkins, a legend of the Australian food world. Her meticulous notebooks, full of sketched out shot ideas, beautiful handwriting & consistent highlighter use are a reassuring site to behold. Her apparently effortless artistry made each shot sing & every day a joy.

A mega joyful team on this project:

Shot in Sydney at Alan Benson’s Studio & on location at Lankan Filling Station (mostly on the footpath on Riley Street!)

I hardly know where to start with describing this beautiful, recently published cook book What We Call Masala by . We shot the whole book in Bengaluru, India, my first time visiting a country that’s been on my list for many years. Being commissioned to shoot away from home always feels exhilarating, exciting & along with a huge sense of anticipation there’s also a twinge of uncertainty. Where will we stay? Will the team bond? How will I get the shots needed for the project, ideally with a little magic in them. How will I do this with my child in tow? (I will be forever grateful to Kamila, mum of , for coming from Oman to look after The Bird).

Turned out there was no need for anxiety (as is often the case!) & the whole shoot experience was amazing, even the ‘Big Brother-style’ shared living situation, which was also our ‘studio’ half the time.

Sarina describes & writes about spices, flavours, textures, feeling & tastes - masala - like no one I’ve ever encountered. If you have any curiosity around food, either in the joyful greedy pursuit of something delicious to eat or as medicine, I honestly cannot recommend Sarina’s book highly enough.

After years of hearing about legendary Australian stylist , we were finally paired together on Sarina’s project, as well as another one in Sydney 2 weeks prior to India (more to come on this soon). Kirsten’s talent elevates every image & it was a real joy to work with her & experience India & to watch her hunt for props & angles & fabrics!

Time has got away with me, filled with lovely projects & some travel, so it’s been many months since I shared a work update. Here’s a quick one before the holidays…

Recently published is ’s cook book,  . Gurd is such a fun & interesting person, so knowledgeable about music, travel, art, tastes & flavours; all these things making him such a joy to shoot with.
Such a clever idea for his book - 15 Modern Pantry Ingredients to Amplify Your Cooking. Everything tasted so vibrant & alive. And we were blessed with glorious sunny days, which I hope infuse the images with an uplifting energy.
