The ITV World Cup presenting team. Commissioned by Pat Smith for ITV.

The initial brief was to photograph 18 presenters and pundits for the World Cup 2026, which eventually became 22. The shoot formed part of a press day, so we had nearly all of our presenters there on the day, but as they had other interviews and press commitments throughout, it wasn’t possible to photograph them as a group but instead do it one by one or in smaller groups

With a nod to the North American location for the World Cup, the bleacher style seating felt like a fun way to give it a team shot feel. Although it wasn’t possible to photograph them altogether, we wanted to do our best to make it look as dynamic as possible and that they were all there on the bleachers at the same time.

, a great photographer in his own right came on board as assistant and lighting designer. This truly was a team effort from the start as we navigated what turned out to be a complex day with many moving parts. Our plan was to create a shot on our bleacher set then also photograph each presenter on a separate portrait set. Picante Productions stepped to create the bleachers beautifully for us when it became clear that due to the limitations of the room we were in we couldn’t hire in a seating structure.

our wonderful digi wrangled images from three separate cameras and created a rough comp as we went along. who I’ve done many projects with, was also on hand to assist on this and on one of our additional shoots was our runner and took some lovely bts shots. Additional shoots throughout the UK meant we were able to include a few presenters that weren’t able to make it on the day - can you guess which ones?

came on board towards the end to photograph and .unkel for us and matched our lighting beautifully so that they fitted in seamlessly.

Finally Lorna Brown had the unenviable task of putting everyone together in the final shot.

Huge thanks as always to Pat Smith for his support and commitment throughout on what was a tricky shoot to navigate but a great one to do.

On the final ep of Grace I’m pleased to say we had an female director , DOP Emily Almond Barr 1st Ad

Earlier in in the series when on set and before action was called I did a head count and it was me and 22 men on set including cast, director, camera team, sound team, grips and sparks. That’s unfortunately pretty normal. Thankfully there are more and more women entering the industry in roles that have been male dominated but keeping those women in the industry whilst they juggle life and families remains a moot point.

So a shout out to all the amazing women that worked in this series and on series past, including our cast regulars .mp3 , writers Jess Williams and Caroline Carver, production designer Madeleine Leech, costume design Claire Lynch, Make up designer and fan team, stand by wardrobe Lauren Mitchell and AD Molly Shooman, script supervisor Penelope Chong and medic and all those in production, casting and behind the scenes and apologies if I haven’t mentioned you here.
