I love wondering what animals are thinking when I take their photo! 🦭📸

This lovely seal at Ormsary certainly looks like it has something on its mind. I wonder what it was thinking when it spotted me with the camera! 😂

One of those little moments that makes wildlife photography so enjoyable.

📸 A little about my story

What started as a lockdown project back in 2020 has grown into something I could never have imagined.

I’m a self-taught photographer based in Argyll, and you’ll often find me out with my camera chasing a sunset, exploring the Crinan Canal or capturing the beautiful places we’re lucky enough to have on our doorstep.

❤️ Since 2020, my calendars have helped raise over £20,000 for the local Macmillan Unit in Lochgilphead, something that means a great deal to me. I’ve also been able to support other local charities along the way.

📅 Over the years I’ve become known to many as “The Calendar Girl”, and my photography has taken me to craft fairs, shows and events all around Argyll.

📷 My photographs have also appeared in local and national media, and I was delighted to receive the President’s Choice Award in the Scottish Women’s Institutes National Photography Competition.

For 2027, I have four calendars to choose from:
• Along the Crinan Canal
• Time Out
• Summer Nights
• The Best of the Rest

This year, a percentage from my calendar sales is going to Crossbasket House, part of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, another cause that is very close to my heart.

From picking up my camera to where Aileen Gillies Photography is today, I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has bought a calendar, card or print, stopped to chat at an event, shared one of my photographs or simply followed my page.

Thank you for being part of it. ❤️📸

A lovely start to the day in Inveraray this morning, stopping for a few photos on my way to Dalmally Agricultural Show

It was my first time attending Dalmally Show with my cards, calendars and prints, and it was lovely to meet so many old and new faces. Thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat or made a purchase.

I took this photo of the Vic 32 back in 2021, not long after I first started photographing her. I’m really looking forward to seeing her back in the water again.

Another highlight of this summer was heading out with Venture West to Lunga to see the puffins. 🐧📸

Getting so close to the puffins was amazing, but the trip got even better when we landed on Staffa and walked into the incredible Fingal’s Cave.

It was a huge tick off my photography bucket list and definitely a day I won’t forget!

Above West Loch Tarbert 💙

One of those lovely Argyll views that never gets old — looking across the fields and sheep towards West Loch Tarbert, with the old stone d**e and that gorgeous evening light over the hills. 🌅

I’m delighted that this photo features in my 2027 “Time Out” calendar 📸

Since 2020, sales of my calendars have raised over £20,000 for MacMillan unit at Lochgilphead hospital in memory of my late mum Marion, something I’m incredibly proud of.

This year, I’m raising money for Crossbasket House, part of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. ❤️

The best view in Mid Argyll 📸

I absolutely love the swirls of the river in this view. I know I post this photo quite often, but I also know it’s one of many people’s favourite views — and I can see why! ❤️

Definitely one of those views I never get tired of.
