Frightened Tree Photography - North Wales

Hunting for compositions around Llangollen's Panorama resulted in this although this was the second attempt.

We took a shot very similar to this but when we looked at the image back home on our laptop we realised the castle was in focus but the tree was out of focus due to the hyperfocal distance of the lens. So, a few evenings later we looked for similar conditions and took the 20 minute drive back to Llangollen.

Had we bothered to do the 10 second walk to the car we could have got our tripod and got the shot right first time but we just couldn't be bothered. The moral of the story here is to stop being so lazy.

Llyn Ogwen Sunrise.

Usually with the sun this high the sky would be blown out but on this particular morning there was a large fire in Nant Gwynant. This was taken a hour or so after sunrise.

Skomer Island Puffins.

It is always a privilege to witness the arrival of puffins on Skomer Island. If you want to see these fabulous birds you need to book around December for a slot in May or June as the tickets book up quickly.

These were taken with a 100-400mm lens on a Nikon Z6 and a 35-150mm lens on a Nikon Zf but as the puffins aren't shy you could use a much smaller focal length.

We were too early to see the birds with sand eels this time around as the pufflings had not yet hatched so a couple of weeks later may have been better.

Plas Newydd, Llangollen.

Evening shot of this iconic North Wales location. The house, famously, was the home of Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby who are known as the Ladies of Llangollen. If anyone would like information of their story there is a link below.

The light falls nice on Castell Dinas Brân and on Plas Newydd early evening during April and the gates are open until dusk so it is well worth the visit. We zoomed in to 43mm to try to compress the castle and the house.

Lovely Llangollen above the fog this morning. So good we went back later for the Riverside Walk.
