Studies. Learning how the tiniest details affect a portrait. All it takes is a shadow slightly out of place or over darkened and it all looks a bit wonky. Still fascinating to see it develop.

Portrait studies. I want to be able to get to the point in which I can mix my love of magical realism with my love of portraits. To get there I will need a LOT of portrait studies.

They said we were past our prime.
They said we were declining.
The word hormonal was spit out like a curse.
From their point of view, there was only loss from now on—
as far as our (apparently foggy) imagination could see.
So we took their words and adorned our skin.
“There you are, society—is this what you think of us?” we asked, boldly.
“Hysterical,” they whispered under their breath,
avoiding our eyes,
as if we had suddenly become invisible.
So we let those words shine in the bright sun.
And then we let them run.
Run under fresh water—
down our faces, down our arms,
tinting our hair, our hands.
We let them run until they blurred,
until they transformed,
until they became unreadable.
Until they became what they truly are:
random marks.
Words we can wash off.
Stories we refuse to embody.
This is the very first part of a project about the menopause, developed by two women, two friends, two soul sisters, who are going through this period of transformation. This project is personal. It's our interpretation of it. We are not implying our experience is everyone's experience, this is our personal artistic interpretation of this stage of life and the invisible, unspoken tension we feel it can carry. But as it is, we are open to hear about other people's experience of menopause. How they feel it or don't feel it. How they relate or not with these images. Join our voice to ours, share it, say it, write it. Use these images as a starting point for a discussion. This was our very first shoot about it and by no means the last.

Amazing free taster sessions with Happy Headwork, an amazing Community Interest Company I am part of. Please take a look and find your favourite ones. You can even book one of each 😍 I assure you it will be a lovely way to spend a cold January/February morning.

And please, share this post far and wide 😊

I know my photography posts have been very spaced out lately, and this is one of the reasons, one of the many hats I wear. And a very good one at that. 🥰😍

It feels like forever since I last posted a photoshoot! It was extremely hard to choose photos from this shoot, so I just had to do a mix match of all the different poses. What a lovely family to photograph and what a stunning season and location to photography them in 😊. This photoshoot had been offered as a Christmas voucher and you can see what a beautiful gift it was for this family 🥰😍

On that note, Christmas vouchers for this year to be released very soon!!
