One of the finest churches in Liverpool

Once the largest Roman Catholic Parish in England with about 13, 000 parishioners, the Church of Saint Francis Xavier (SFX) is a magnificent Grade 2* listed building in Salisbury Street, Liverpool. The foundation stone was laid in 1842 and J. J. Scoles was appointed as architect. Opened in 1848 and served by the Fathers and Brothers of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). The spire was added in 1883.

By the time of the Second World War, St Francis Xavier's was the largest Roman Catholic parish in England, containing over 13,000 Catholics
