🎈THE BALLOON THAT CARRIES HOPE
Sometimes, the smallest things can tell the biggest stories.
This balloon arrived on the Paul Ward at Belfast Children’s Hospital with a simple message: Get Well Soon.
But somewhere along the way, it became something much more than that.
It began a journey from one little patient to another, carrying handwritten messages, good wishes and a little bit of hope with every passing hand. Each child adding their name to its story, each family quietly wishing the next family a better day.
And now, it’s with James 💙
We’ve been in the Children's hospital since July and although we're no stranger to this place having been in and out for 9 years now, this stay has been by far the toughest yet, with constant uncertainty of what tomorrow might bring.
There are days when the waiting wears you down, when hope feels a little like that balloon might look if you let the air out — tired, faded and struggling to stay afloat.
But perhaps that’s the beauty of this little balloon.
It doesn’t have to be brand new to keep carrying hope. It doesn’t have to be perfect to keep flying. And it doesn’t have to travel quickly to reach someone who needs it.
Time has passed. Children have come and gone. Names and dates have been added to its story. Yet here it is, still floating, still carrying its message, still finding its way to another child who could do with a little good luck.
Maybe that’s a lesson for all of us.
Sometimes life leaves us feeling deflated. Sometimes the journey takes far longer than we ever imagined. And sometimes, all we can do is hold on, take the next day as it comes, and hope that the wind will eventually change.
We’re hoping this little balloon brings James some better luck. More than anything, we’re hoping that very soon, he’ll be well enough to pass it on to another child on this ward.
Another name. Another message. Another family given a little reminder that they’re not alone.
Because the real magic was never in the helium, the shiny foil or the words printed across it.
It’s in the hope it carries from one child to the next.
And until James can pass it on, we’ll keep holding on to that hope ourselves. 🙏💙
