If Men Had the Menopause, It’d Be Cured by Now: Portraits of Perimenopause is an intimate, collaborative exploration of personal transition, moving beyond clinical definitions to confront the realities of shifting identity. Combining unfiltered portraiture with handwritten reflections, the work exposes the invisible fatigue and societal pressures of ageing before opening into radical self-acceptance. Central to this journey is reclaiming play, laughter, and joy defying cultural narratives that equate middle age with deficit. By integrating tactile imagery, the project frames bodily change not as decline, but as a site of resilience, agency, and the freedom to live fully.

The work will be shown during the Photo Fringe festival at BAS from the 9th October to the 11th alongside the amazing project by the incredibly talented .
We will also be hosting a private viewing on the 9th October. Follow to stay up to date.

If men had the menopause, it’d be ‘cured’ by now.

This provocative statement serves as the foundation for my new work-in-progress exhibition: Portraits of Perimenopause.

Perimenopause and menopause are not a disease or illness to be 'cured' but something to be researched, discussed and understood. However, instead it has been a site of profound systemic neglect, rendered invisible within our clinical, corporate, and social discourses. This "invisibility" is a direct result of the gender health gap and a "default male" bias in medical research that often leaves women’s lived experiences unrecorded and underserved.

The statistics are stark: in the UK, 1 in 10 women leave their jobs because of menopause symptoms. By using photography as an act of collaboration and co-authorship, this project seeks to humanise that data, moving the conversation from a silent, private struggle to a public health and economic priority.

I am thrilled to announce that this work will be shown as part of WonderGround Lincoln, a celebration of the city's vibrant culture and creativity.

This exhibition is designed to be a safe space for dialogue and advocacy. I invite you to come along, see the progress of the portraits, and help ensure this transition receives the visibility and urgency it warrants.

We are so pleased to finally introduce our latest project: Written on the Skin: Portraits of Perimenopause.

This work is a co-authored exploration between myself and my fiancée, Amy; an emerging artist whose lived experience and voice are at the very heart of everything we create in this project. Together, we are looking at the often-overlooked realities of the perimenopausal transition, moving away from clinical labels and focusing on the personal, human story.
Our mission is to bring these 'hidden narratives' into the light and start a genuine, cross-gender conversation. For too long, this stage of life has been shrouded in silence, and we believe it’s time to change that.

We want to hear from you. If you are navigating perimenopause, what has your journey been like? What do you wish people understood?
And to us men following, please don’t be a stranger to the comments! We’d love for you to ask questions. Understanding this transition is something we should do together, and no question is too small.

We are looking for a home.
We are currently seeking exhibition spaces, galleries, or institutions that would be interested in hosting this work. If you have a recommendation, or if you work within an organisation that values creative health and social advocacy, we would love to connect.
Let’s get the conversation started. 👇
