Here is a product video I produced the for Amazon listing of these brilliant glow through candles. The beauty of a candle is in the movement of the flame and the flickering glow of the glass text that doesn't quite capture the same way in a still image as it can with video.

My product videos are shot in lifestyle settings to show the product as true as possible and reflect it's intended use. This helps the viewer to imagine the product in their lifestyle, in their world and increase the chances of a purchase.

Which colour candle would you choose? Or would you place a cheeky order for both?

The client behind these beautiful glass glow through candles first contacted me wanting to improve the imagery she already had. Th difficulty with a product like this is you want to photograph it with as much clear light as possible, however to capture the glow through of the text requires the product to be used, and to blend natural and studio lighting.

That's where lifestyle photos come in! The freedom of the packages created allowed us to use the studio photos to capture these shots here that reflect the product in its truest sense, and to use the lifestyle photos to show how the product works and looks when it has been burnt down and the text is glowing! Many products have multiple purposes, functions, and ways we can use. We want to give our potential audience as much information as we can.
For this wine tote bag I wanted to show it in both a day and evening setting because the opportunities of when this product may be used are limitless and this can be portrayed through the images. The bag is insulated and is designed to hold and chill 2 wine bottles or large beverages. I can see this being used by the stylish walker looking for a tipple at their halfway point, at an outdoor event or picnic in the sunshine, or simple as the ideal going out evening bag.

How many ways are your product being used?

This is something we all long for in our lives, and it is what your target audience is looking for when shopping.

We can photograph a product in multiple ways from multiple angles, but if we arenโ€™t deliberate about what we are trying to say with the images then we arenโ€™t taking advantage if the great opportunity we have to deliver information to our audience.

What does your product feel like to use? Letโ€™s show that in an image.

In this example you can see the materials used, and we can describe them in the product description as โ€˜soft leather handleโ€™, however with our decision to buy online being so heavily influenced by visuals, let us show how comfy this bag is to carry and encourage the audience to imagine themselves using the bag.

Create the ideal situation, but be realistic!

I want to show your product in the best way. We want it to look heroic and desirable. But we donโ€™t want to alienate our audience by moving away from what is realistic by airbrushing and creating stunning images that donโ€™t reflect our product or connect with our audience.

You know your target audience and main demographic, so I work with my clients to create images aimed at that demographic. We want the target audience to imagine themselves using this product and so have to use a setting in the lifestyle images that they may relate to. A lot of Amazon lifestyle product images, or those provided by manufacturers are 'dreamlike photoshop edits' of the product in unrealistic scenarios. If the image here showed the same bag, wine bottle and glass set up on a table at the top of the French alps, we would lose part of our target audience that wouldnโ€™t be able to relate to this location or sensation linked with luxury skiing resorts, for example.

I want to help you keep your images relatable and relevant to best increase the rate of sale for your product. Where does your product get used?

It may sound like a simple tip, and it can often be considered too much of an expense - Tip 3 is to include a variety of image styles on your product listings.

When a potential customer has clicked through to your product, we want to keep them on the listing for as long as possible. The longer they are on the listing, the more information we can provide about the product through the images and can hopefully influence a sale.

Different image styles can tell us something different about the product, and a variety is much more visually appealing. Consider using 'lifestyle' photos to show your product in a real life context, 'creative' images to show your product in a more commercialised environment and 'infographics' to share specific details, to support your main white background listing photo and packshots.

And it doesn't have to be expensive... Keep an eye out for photographers who offer Amazing and E-Commerce specific packages.

Include Your Packaging

Many of the items sold on Amazon have a more practical and domestic use, and can be limited in how visually appealing they look when photographed. In todays top tip I'm suggesting the idea of using your packaging in your main product image alongside your product.

- The design of your packaging makes your product image more appealing to look at
- It gives consumer more to look at and take in alongside your competitors and so will slow them down when scrolling through
- It provides the consumer with more information about the product, its scale, its functions and usage
- It reduces the amount of white background space in the image making the main product image larger on the Amazon pages

And all these should increase the chance of your target audience clicking through to your listing.

Take a look at your listing images. Could these be made more visually appealing by including your packaging?
